Many use Twitter to share their opinions and on-goings of the day, but as an internet marketer, you can make Twitter work for you.

• Use your Twitter updates to ask questions that will trigger responses from your followers - almost like a research tool. Ask an open ended question and watch Twitter become your research tool. You will get responses from your followers that can become that inspiration for writing an article or getting a second opinion on whatever.

Twitter can be additive, don’t waste your time discussing what you had for lunch when you could be getting feedbacks for that ebook cover or your website.

• Use twitter for branding yourself. Twitter on subjects related to your blog/website. The goal here is to establish yourself as a leader in your niche, therefore make your tweets interesting, informative and relevant. The same way there are top contributors on blog posts, your twitter name will be recognised as a top contributor on tracking sites and twitter search, also people will look at you as an expert in your area.

• Although traffic generation is a secondary factor of using Twitter, still Twitter can drive targeted traffic to your blog/website. It is important that you find a balance so your followers don’t think you are constantly sending them to a blog or trying to sell them something. That said, make your link messages appealing, instead of just telling your followers you have just published another new post on your blog, ask of their opinion on the topic you have covered on the post. Asking a question engages your Twitter followers and entices them into having a look at that post and possibly commenting on your blog.

Actually, you say traffic generation is secondary but there's a lot of value in the links in tweets - Google loves them and they can make a big difference on their own.

Tnx for highlighting that! We learn as we go along. For most people, Twitter is mostly for socialising, but for Internet marketers, we think traffic, list, money..... why not! It's the name of the game!
