I want to produce a video where people view it by paying for each view.

Does anyone know of a service online that would give me
the ability to do this?

You could set up your own site for doing this, as a members site. Could be done as a membership blog with payment buttons - you could show a teaser, it could stop and a payment option is presented, the buyer can be directed to paypal, and after payment could be redirected back to the full video.

I can help you if you wanted to produce video for distribution within the MMORPG SecondLife. We already have a hosting/streaming/download system set up. However, its only for within SecondLife

We have video system which can handle 1-25 videos per system, 1-unlimited days, 1-unlimited views, 1-unlimited downloads. We also have a gift voucher system and vendor system with auto-customer mailing list signup & opt-out.

We are about to do the set up work for a few services in SL.

After talking with them their support was so crappy that
it scared me off.

Why not set this up on a wordpress blog and control everything yourself by using something like wishlist membership plugin? I'm doing the same thing with some fitness videos, works like a charm!

You can do full Pay Per View (PPV) of audio and video with Windows Media Server (WMS) and Digital Rights Management (DRM). You can get a Windows Server from people like Hostgator which have the Windows Media Server already installed, with a web administration just like Windows PC (make sure you get Standard version of Windows Server or above because the lower versions don't have WMS installed).

You can buy DRM, which allow you to set audio/videos to broadcast once or as many times as you like or set timelimits from services such as:

EZDRM: DRM, Digital Rights Management complete security solutions for your digital content

With WMS and DRM you can set up your own streaming television service or radio service using playlists. You can play around with Windows Media Server on your PC by downloading WMS from:

I agree with Jay on this, it's easy to do a membership site with wordpress.

Just to add one point which the support at Wishlist replied to me a few months ago.

Using Wishlist, you can control access to their membership site. However, it cannot control access to the videos (currently). What this means is that once your members see the video and the direct link to the video, they can still access it without going through the membership site.

But this point can be countered by putting in other measures (eg. other scripts). So it is not a show-stopper. I thought it would be good to highlight this point up.

I don't mean to toot my horn... but I will.

My Micro-Membership WordPress plugin will get you halfway there. It'll create the membership security so that users will have to be logged on to see the link to the video.

If you don't want to SELL memberships, you can create FREE memberships (so people have to login) then sell access to the videos individually.

I'm handling the other half of the solution using Amazon S3 and a WordPress plugin called Amazon S3 Expiring URL Generator. The plugin creates links that expire after a designated period of time (10 minutes, half hour, etc.). That way, the video link that your members use will have expired by the time a non-member tries to use it.

Unfortunately, the existing Amazon S3 Expiring URL Generator plugin has a few wrinkles that need ironing out. I'm in the process of "fixing" the bugs and should be done by this weekend.

If you're interested in the Micro-Membership plugin, check my sig.

There are other ways to accomplish what you'd like, but the generally come with hefty price tags. WordPress (FREE), Amazon S3 Expiring URL Generator (FREE) and Micro-Membership (cheap) will get you there without breaking the bank.
