Default I've been foolin' around - Check out the new "Vintage Squeeze"

Some days I get the urge to be silly, to play around a bit, and today was no exception. Was messing round with my squeeze page, trying this and that, looking for something "different" that would attract attention because, well, because it was different.

So I made my squeeze page look like something out of the past, something the Internet generation may already have forgotten exist, much less how to use it. Heheh.

What'sit?

Um...an envelope. LOL!

You can peek at it here: http://www.tina-adams.com
(Warning: That's a live capture page - don't subscribe).<- Warning rescinded courtesy of Kevin Riley and Killer Joe. Do as you will

Just thought you all might get a kick out of my moment of goofiness.

I think that's a great concept!

Maybe add a better (more obvious) stamp, with a postmark, rounded or distressed edges, or even some texture. I would have thought it was a plain squeeze page, had you not mentioned it was supposed to be an envelope. The whole concept gets a bit lost because the design is a little too simple.

Well, I don't know that yet. I just put it up there, and I haven't run a bit of traffic to it, so... My answer right now is: "Who knows?"

Great idea for mixing things up a bit. I'm surprised there isn't more variation in squeeze pages, such as post-cards type ones with a picture of an exotic location and people enter their email address in the signature area below the message. Or how about a sports car front-end pointing straight out of the picture and the would-be subscriber enters their name in the 'number-plate' field, then their email address below. You could use all sorts of cool signage.

You showed me yours, now I'll show you mine...

If you click the link in my sig you'll see a website like few others. It's not a squeeze page, just my playground. I'm only bringing this up because you seem to like 'different'.

I'll fill in my email addy on yours when I can find some estamps. I'm currently out...

KJ: very nice!

I once had an idea for a "museum" online, but neither the lady I was partnering with at the time nor myself knew exactly how to create the "exhibits". You could probably swing it with no problem.

Oh, and don't worry about the estamp. I was out too. The one on the envelope is a "fake"...in fact, it's a plate. LOL

I really like your idea. It's nice to see something different and I hate to say "vintage" because I feel dated. (When I was young that's was it for communication!) HAHA

Hey Tink, the envelop is certainly different.

Test it out and see how it performs.

Ultimately, that's all that really matters.

Steve, yeah. That's what I was thinking.

When folks get used to seeing the same old something the same old way, they tend to start ignoring it for the most part -- like banner ads? I get the feeling most standard squeeze pages are starting to become ignorable so decided to fiddle around to see if I could come up with something different.

Now to see if it also "works."

Sheesh. What would I lick a stamp to stick on my computer monitor for? Hilarious.

By the way, if anyone's keeping track, this DOES NOT work. Don't anybody try this at home. I've had tons of visits to this page today and not ONE sign up.

Yeah, well, that was a post-preservation warning. Put it there for the same reason I did not mention there was 80+ pages of sneaky cool info on the other side of that form. Was afraid the thread would get nuked. <shudder> Can't have that, right? So the warning stands. <Crosses arms across chest and gives a firm nod>

Would love a stamp image...provided I never have to lick it, and stick it on my monitor. Makes things gooey and all that...then I wouldn't be able to open my laptop.

nabil...they only seem surprised because (maybe?) most folks are as bored with the standard squeeze fare as me, I think, but nobody else thought about changing things up like this.

Now that I have mentioned it here in passing, I'm betting you'll see a number of "unique" squeezes show up.

You have been sending a bunch of Warriors over to look at your opt-in page, with a warning not to opt-in. Think that maybe you're not getting any trackable traffic yet?

Kevin, that can't possibly be it. Everybody knows anybody who's anybody always does exactly what they're told NOT to do!

Okay, just to test your (and KJ's) theory, ya'll all go over there and opt-in fast! Why? There really is an 80 page thingy you get in exchange for your email address that tells you a whole bunch of stuff about how to create information products and use a blog and write articles and ... and ... gosh, I don't know what all's in there at this point. Go ahead and opt-in, but beware. You might learn something -- or not. Opt-in if you dare! Muhahahah!

(BTW: Kevin and KJ, if my thread gets nuked, I'm holding you two responsible!)

The PSP Tube Depot I manage is free for personal use and most of the images are OK for commercial use with a donation to a charity, the amount being at the user's discretion. (See each artists page for commercial use permissions, The most prolific artists allow commercial use with a charity donation, Jecajo, Billy, Restless Concepts *that's me!* etc.) Donations are not monitored and the user's honesty is just assumed.

23,500 images, most are 3D. Most are in .PSPIMAGE format, to change to .PNG, just rename the extension to .PSP and use 'Tube-Ex' (linked to on the home page) to convert them easily to .PNG for any graphic program use. Link in my sig.

Sweet.

Why not make the stamp a little video?
Add some red arrows pointing to the email box? (on either side; nothing too imposing)

That is absolutely adorable.

Now can someone set up a script that will make postcard squeeze pages? Add a way for someone to upload a picture for the back of the postcard, and then a way for those to display on a site.

I will buy it.

The pictures can display on a single web page that works like a blog, and the latest ones will pile on top of the old ones. It needs to have a quick editor in case someone sends a pic that is too racy.

Then when a noob gets their first site up, they get to add a link on their postcard, or send a new one on a Postcard Success site - for a dollar.

I would take an actual envelope graphic and stick it in there, as well as resize the stamp so its square.

It just looks like a rectangular opt-in box right now

It's a solid concept though, obviously you'd need to test it first.

Looks good; I would make the background a different color than white to help the envelope pop more

That actually is very creative. Maybe retro will be the new way shortly to do things in the future. I imagine some people will eventually grow tired of the flash everywhere.

Wow.

Thanks to everyone for your comments on this. Maybe I've started something that will definitely increase squeeze page conversions for some of you, and if so, that's great! I'm loving the different ideas for making this really pop, creating some nice eye-candy for visitors.

Some of you designers out there might wanna pay attention here. People are saying they definitely WILL buy this sort of product if you create it. I'd do it, but I'm concentrating in a different direction right now, so I'm leaving the profits to be had to you. Gracious of me, huh?

As for conversions? Well, if you don't tell people NOT to subscribe (like I did) it starts to convert. I have had some sign-ups now. Woohoo!

Anyway, thanks again for everyone's feedback here, and do keep posting your thoughts for those designers who will be working hard to fulfill your wishes on creating new squeeze pages for ya, okay?

Richard, Hi!

You know that site is one of my all-time favorites. Almost seems logical I would accidentally choose an envelope design for my vintage squeeze, huh?

KJ, Goof...

If that's true (and it definitely has the ring of truth! lol) I'm responsible all on my own.

Great Idea!

It would be cool to try it out on a photo realistic type graphic. Like having a real envelope there (with a creased corner and some slight paper damage effect). The text could be a handwritten font too - and the signup box could be positioned as the addressee on the envelope. TO: your eMail: ----------------

Nice one!

You've only got to see the appreciation of other warriors on this thread to realize when a simple idea has legs.

Go out into the world wide web and plants some seeds of curiosity linking back to this page and see what results you get back. I can guarantee that you will create interest.

Rich,

I hear you, and I've already done so - a bit. Blogged it, tweeted it, etc. Can't wait to see what some of the more talented designers out there do with it.

Hey!

Just had an idea for the stamp on the envelope?

Have you ever seen Tiffany Dow's Twitter page?

Look at her avatar?

Go have a look, it would work so well with your envelope.

PM her, she, may just give away the method she used to create it?

-Rich

Instead of waving, you could be pointing down to the opt-in box?

Richard, that's a great idea. She has a simple '.gif' there, and it really does the trick.

I agree...if only I didn't break camera lenses. <sigh> Kidding. I'm just waaay to camera shy. Anyone else wanna volunteer to point toward my opt-in box in a gif video? <WG>

Hey, I don't know if anyone else has seen it but I'm thinking a design like this would work well with ... what's that dude's name? Jason Fladlien? Something like that. Would work well with his "4 minute squeeze page" thingy. Any of you know him? He'd probably get something out of this thread, too.

It's just an animated gif isn't it? Have a look at this FREE site (nothing to do with me) - you can make animated gifs from YouTube videos - Create Animated GIFs From YouTube Videos - GIFSoup.com - you just select 10 seconds from any clip. Like this -
