Need Help With Keyword Research Using Excel Please

Hi, right now I'm getting into keyword research and I use excel to put my keywords on. My question is, when I'm copying keywords onto my excel is there a way for me to do something so that an alert comes up when I copy and paste a keyword that has already been used?

If you have a better way that you do keyword research using excel to download them to, then let me know. Also, if any of you use samurai for your keyword research, let me know what's so "special" about it.

Thanks,
James

If you are doing the keyword research for ppc, then it will let you know if you have a repeat keyword when you dump the keyword list into you ppc campaign. It will not let you compete with yourself.

    James,

I don't know how to (easily) alert you of a duplicate keyword when you paste, but it's simple enough to filter out duplicates in Excel once you've finished your research.

I haven't used Samurai for ~ a year, (can you guess why?)...but I HAVE heard it's brilliant. I understand it's about as "point 'n click" drop-dead simple as it's possible to get.

    Best wishes,
    Steve

Thanks for the information everyone! Steve- I'm confused, why don't you use samurai? I thought about getting it next week when I can afford it.

    I use Market Samurai

For one if you use MS you wouldn't have to worry about duplicate keywords since you won't be using excel like you are now
There is so much functionality in MS it hard to know where to begin.

In fact it probably has more information then the average person will use for just basic keyword research.
However if you are building sites with rss fed articles for content then MS will put together those rss feeds based on your keywords

If you need to check out your keyword competition - it does that easily

It does tons of stuff - have you read their website?

Compared to other keyword research tools its on steroids.

As for your excel question - I don't think there is an alert functionality for duplicate words - I could be wrong though
When ever I've scrapped large numbers of keywords in multiple sessions (before getting MS) I've just resorted the columns and hand deleted the duplicates.
