Default Your BEST piece of advice...

I've been trying my luck in internet marketing for years on and off but I feel like because of all the reading I've been doing lately, my best chances of being successful are ahead of me.

I know most everyone would say this, but my best one-line piece of advice to a beginner would be this: don't over-think your methods to the point that you do nothing -- take action as soon as possible because you can't succeed by learning and learning and never doing anything.

What's your best one-line piece of advice to someone just getting started?

My piece of advice would be, "if you are entering a internet business, make sure that search engine optimization of your website should never stop as if this stops, your business stops sooner or later".

Take action.

Nobody ever got anywhere by standing still.

Well, actually, you can take action but still end up getting nowhere.. so hmm.. I guess my advice would be to focus on something and see it through until the end.

Get into a coaching program with live webinars, do everything you're told to do and pest the coach with questions. Ask, ask, ask; since you payed, you deserve an answer.

Be honest to you and don't jump to another program until you've seen results with the one you started.

Do your research, pick one thing from that research, plan a business around it, focus on that one thing, and take massive action until you succeed. Don't waste too much time checking your stats, email, and facebook. Sounds simple, no?

Bingo!

My advice is what I followed from Zig:

"You can get everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want." Zig Ziglar

Think about that deeply because underneath it lies the Golden Rule to anything you want because if you think of the first person as the OTHER, your customers will know whose first!

And lastly...

"If you wait until all the lights are "green" before you leave home, you'll never get started on your trip to the top." Zig Ziglar

I think many do this by re-arranging their offices, getting EVERYTHING ALL SETUP and ready to go, but they never go because the lights aren't ALL green.

And on that note, I've gone over my ONE line, and that's why I'll see YOU at the top...

Pick a income model (make sure its sound). Write down your plan from beginning to end. implement it from start to finish. And then go back and tweak it. Don't get side tracked by the next new thing until you have completed the first.

Write down a "systematic", or *step-by-step* business plan that will help you to achieve whatever you want to achieve, day-by-day...

This will make the road-to-success a hell of a lot *easier*...trust me, I would know, LOL!

Before you start a business, think of what you really want to do.. You can't just enter a market where other people venture in. Look at you interest and make use of the knowledge you have. Don't copy what other people do.

You don't really need to buy an ebook... surf across the forum threads which will tell you everything which probably an ebook will never tell.. you....

secondly, learn about SEO very very important and a bit of adevertising/copyrighting concepts.. read a lot if you are new .. and don't hesitate in putting it in action.. 50% of your time should be spent in implementing whatever you have learnt.. even if you don't do things correctly it will lead you somewhere ...

Don't measure your time against income early. This is an employee mentality. I have seen people give up after a few days of work because there was no "payoff".

Payoffs are not always immediate and sometimes the best stuff takes time to build.

Great point!! My best businesses took time to build. At times it seems like you are working FOR nothing, but in actuality you are working TOWARDS something.

Best piece of advice is don't buy anything until you have read everything that is free on internet marketing. People are too quick to buy something because they want it easy and fast only to find out that it was a waste of money.

Luckily, the internet has so much free information that you don't really need to buy it from someone to be successful.

You could just come here and ask a question or read the thousands of posts and learn so much.

Best piece of advice EVER:

Stop worrying about people ripping off your product or idea before you've even developed a halfway decent product or idea! Just do the work. THEN, if your product or idea is good enough to rip off, you can start worrying!

Never take any action at all until you know 100% of all details and disciplines involved and know 100% what every possible outcome could be, and their likelihood of occurring. Instead, sit on your idea until you have read and re-read every possible piece of information you can find or buy that pertains to it.

Bonus: While doing that, be sure to keep an eye out for ideas that look better than the one you're working on. If you find one, abandon your first idea, and do the same as above with the new, obviously better idea.

...

P.S. Obviously the answer above is the opposite of good advice, yet it's what 99% of people will do over and over. Hopefully, my stating it so plainly will help at least some of the people who are "stuck" to wake up and just get started already. For the rest, no worries - resume napping.

I started in Internet Marketing 6 months ago. Since then I have been KILLING the paychecks I got at my old job...

As many people above stated my first piece of advice would be to pick 1 thing and do it well...

My follow up piece of advice would be to build a business... not just try your hand at the easiest get rich quick IM ideas out there like so many people do that fail.

My mentors said "build a business. A business is in the list".

So choose to build a business (not get money quick) and stick with it.

Me again with more tips

Most important is a Goal. this will be your direction. your motivator. Kinda like a Coach Pushing you.

Stick to only 1-3 traffic generating methods. Not good to be a Jack of all trades at 1st.

And Keep trying till you Succeed. Determination is Mans Most Powerful Tool. This will highly increase the probability of success. When Determined, there is no such thing as Failure only success.

Look at the various methods/types of IM, find one that completely screams your name, choose that one, study the aspects of it, and work away!

Love every minute of it, the learning, the process, and the doing! Then, it may take awhile, but when the money comes rolling in, enjoy some and reinvest some and have a ball baby, doing what you love, when you want!

Never give up as time is an investment as well!
To your success!

Create a killer offer, master your conversions, know your exact numbers by testing / tracking /tweaking, scale up using different distribution channels, go deep and wide, wash, rinse, and repeat, and you'll make 7 to 8 figures faster than you ever thought possible.

My best piece of advice:

Learn THEORY, HOW to market. Stay AWAY from forums. DEVELOP a system. TEST your system. STICK to it without chasing the next fad.

Don't get me wrong, IMPROVE when you can... but stop chasing tangents.

Need high quality articles from an English speaking IMer? $10 each - limited time offer. PM me for details.

Don't listen to others. Pay attention to what they do, but not what they say.

I can really only repeat what others have already stated:

TAKE ACTION!

That is simply the most important thing to do. Don't over-analzye, don't spend all day reading in forums and whatnot, go ahead and actually build a website, write those articles, start that PPC campaign or whatever. Yes, you'll fail at first. You'll probably fail hard (that's why I'd recommend article marketing and other free or low-cost methods), but if you fail enough and keep moving, you'll suddenly find yourself what is commonly referred to as an "expert".

2 thoughts to add:

1) Best piece of advice for life in general:

"What you think about, you bring about"

2) Best 2-part piece of advice for making money (online, offline, in space, under the sea...wherever):

a) Learn how to identify PAIN that's shared by groups of people, why it exists and what the solution would look (smell, taste, sound, feel) like to most in the group.

b) Find, create or have created a solution that's ethical, valuable and in alignment with what the group told you and deliver it consistently.

Focus on providing ONE solution at a time until every aspect of the process is systemized and self sustaining and then either expand you're offerings to this group or move on to the next.
