Get Angry, Control it, and Succeed!

Hey Warriors.

I built my first website in February, so am still new to this game, in comparison to many people.

I started out with no knowledge, and now - 9 months later, I am not far from making a fulltime living from my efforts.

How does this relate to the thread title?

I'll tell you a bit about my story....

I'm a trainee accountant, and have decided that employment isn't for me. I always want to do things my way, and also kinda find accountancy to be the boring side of business, it just doesn't excite me.

I am under pressure from my friends and family to stick at it...

=> It's a good job, with good prospects.
=> You get a good pension and will be well respected.
=> Everybody needs an accountant, you will always have work.

THIS GETS ME ANGRY

I have been in my current job for around 3 years, and this is a majority of my adult life. The people I work with live and die for their job. I can't relate to this, I'm different to all my colleagues.

Recently, I have noticed bitchiness, and I know people are talking about me.

My colleagues found my blog, and thought it funny to send emails around the office to have a laugh at me.

THIS GETS ME ANGRY

I have just come out of my bosses office. Aparently, I spent to long on a set of accounts. Maybe I did, but when I put my arguements across, she shut me down, and wouldn't listen.

THIS GETS ME ANGRY

Now, you might think I need some anger management lessons, but I think going through these experiences is sometimes the key to success.

I sit at my desk, quietly, letting my anger burn up inside....

Then, when I leave to office, I go home and work my ass off - and everytime I want to stop, I just let these thoughts come back, and it makes me work harder.

We have to use these setbacks to our advantage, this is why we are different - we don't fail, then give up. We fail, get angry at ourselves and DAMN WELL SUCCEED!!!!!!

I guess my point is that no matter how hard it gets, or how much things don't work - it's all down to us.

There is no magic button, no one will do it for you.

We need to look at ourselves and get angry at our situation.

It's working for me...that's why I posted it here, and hopefully it will make you angry too!

Rant over..

    Hey Robbie

I find that many people accept what they do for a living, and start IM with the dream of succeeding.

They like the idea, but get too comfortable in employment.

I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with that, as everyone is different.

This post derived from as seminar I have just been to, Lee Mcintyre talked about getting angry, and funnelling that anger into your business in a productive way - that's waht allowed him to get going and start 6 figure a month business.

Anger is a powerful emotion - we have to make sure we use it in the correct way!

Interesting post. As you said, there is no magic button. We have to work hard for success.

    Hi David,

    That's an interesting perspective.

I've never really been in a job I hated, but many people are more driven by negative emotions than positive so getting away from their bad job is a very common reason for getting in to IM.

While I don't think I could advocate feeling bad as a good strategy - if it works for you, use it - just remember that at some point (not too long from now), you might want a more enlightening strategy that still gets you to take action

Well done for taking action and making things happen too - It took me a few years to be able to consider leaving a normal job for my IM so you're ahead of me on that curve.

    Hey Andy

I'm not saying that I'm an angry person or that I feel bad!

What I am trying to get across is turning a negative emotion into a positive evergy.

I'm a positive person, thats why I funnel the negativity the way I do, as some people will let it get to them and frustrate them, whereas I turn that into a strong driving force for my business.

I'm a big believer in Nietzsche verbatim on willpower.

First, Nietzsche states that the nature of man is to will himself torwards power. It's the sole, driving instinct of the human condition. If you think about it, it holds true. Even if your only concern is getting food, being able to feed yourself is power. You can *choose* to eat or not to eat. If you follow my thinking here-

Most *all* anger one encounters is from frustration in acquiring some sort of power.

I tie it all together with this bit-

"He who cannot command himself should obey. And many can command themselves, but much is still lacking before they can obey themselves."
~ Friedrich Nietzsche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra

Basically, your going to get angry; because you want some sort of new power. Be it over others, over conditions in your life, or in your situation the power of running your own business; of being your own employer.

But to actually acquire that power, you must conquer your anger. Turn it into a resource, something to make you keep going when your heads throbbing and your ready to give up (or just go watch TV instead of working).

Nietzsche is difficult to decipher, his writing is pretty cryptic. But the two parts I mentioned are from the same chapter, so I like to think I got the meaning right.

Anger is a good form of motivation, basically.

But there are other methods too..

..and that can be seen in the face of absolute desperation..

People tend to work much better when their backs are to the wall, with everything to lose.

All of it so true David, and kudos to you for your quick progress. I remember you were the one who started the "Newbies---Stick Together" thread that was my first one I latched onto on here. I still haven't quite "made it" yet, but its coming along.

It is all about turning negative emotions into positive energy. Reminding yourself when you get down of why you must keep going and striving for the things that you want to accomplish. When you're sitting there and want to quit, even for the day, think of really why you're doing this.

For me personally, I've never done well with a job that has killed me financially. I can remember being too broke to afford gas to go pick up my paycheck or have any financial resources to try to turn into more money. That's what I think about now when I'm ready to quit.

    I agree!

Positive thinking isn't the only method to get from a to b.

A bit of anger can help get the job done

Jealousy, that is all it is, period. Your co-workers does not have the guts to do what you are trying to do. That is why they are passing along your blog and talk behind your back.

I still remember, straight out of college, got a temporary job at "Forsakringskassan" (a government owned business where people who got sick could claim their pay). After my 6 months there, they, without asking me, changed it to a permanent position, I freaked.

Sitting in the lunch room, over-looking the town square, many co-workers spent the better time of their lunch, checking out who would spend their money from sick pay, going to the government owned liquor store. Go figure.

Once you got hired, you worked there for life. I quit, they thought I was nuts but I could not stand it.

Work your dream man, forget about the naysayers, you can do so much better. If using "anger" gets you there, whatever works, keep working it.

      All the best, Eva

That's funny, this is what I was thinking recently. A lot of success stories I've read start out as a variation of "I'll show them" . Maybe it's not the ideal mental space you want to stay in, but I bet taking some positive action because of it is healthier than just feeling bad.

Two of my favorite success stories that started with getting angry and then taking action:
