DO you hate this or is it just me?

Hi,

During the past few months I have signed up for quite a few newsletters etc. It was ok at first but now i get these emails saying here is your download link or free gift and when you click on link you get taken to a squezze pace where you have to sign up before you get the so-called free gift.

I see this more and more and honestly is pissing me off and I am going to start unsubscribing...

Seem as everyone is just helping another build their list which I don't have an issue with but don't email me saying here is your free gift then make me subscribe to someones list to get it...

Anyone feel as I do or is it just me?

    John,

Are you having to pay for the download? If not then it is free... Something as simple as an email address to get valuable information is a good trade off in my book.

You do not have to sign up and not get the info. But I'm assuming that you're upset because you want that information.

It's no different than walking into a department store and they are giving away a free video game in exchange for you filling out an application form for a new video game store credit card.

They are building leads of people interested in this sort of thing. Giving an email address doesn't cost you anything and if you don't want to be on their list then do not sign up.

Sign up, if the information provides real value to you then you'll likely want more information from that person. If the information doesn't help you then unsubscribe.

As for everyone helping others build their list, well it's called smart business. You'll have a real hard time building a business completely on your own.

I don't have a problem with people building their lists - just being honest about it. Send me an email offering me a "Free" gift, then do me the courtesy of also telling me in that same email that the gift requires me to subscribe to receive it.

Then the ball is in my court - I'll go visit the link if I want to subscribe or not visit it.

        Just saying...it's all about perspective
        Big Mike,

I don't have a problem with anyone trying to buil da list, heck I am trying to build one myself.

What I hate is that I joing your list to get your free product and then I keep getting emails saying here is your free gift/downloadlink and then I find I have to signup to someone elses list to get the product....

I end up with 20 plus people doing the same.

If its free then I should not have to signup to yet another list. That's what irking me to point I am going to start getting off lists that do this and don't tell you that you need to signup.

I don't download it if you have to sign up for another list. The free gift isn't usually worth all the spam you'll probably be getting. If it's something I'd like to find out about, I sign up, download it and then unsubscribe. I'm on very few, carefully selected lists and I like it that way.

If you subscribe to a list any emails you receive subsequently are NOT spam.

Granted, some marketers do use the "Quantity over Quality" approach but the unsubscribe link is usually available. Use it.

If list size drops it may send a message.

I can see how that'd be frustrating but at the same time, we're all here to make money and that's just how they're building their list. To exchange an email address for good information (if it's actually good) seems like a good trade off, especially since most people are charging actually money with ebooks.

Frustrating? Yes. Understandable? Definitely. Nothin' is FREEEEEE.

You can always take the gift and unsubscribe.

Yes I have seen them. I rarely click links any more and just read the content if it interests me.

One thing I have noticed is that I unsubscribe only to keep getting newsletters from the same person.

I don't have a problem with it - there is always the option to directly unsubscribe after you got the free gift. And thats not too much effort for some (hopefully) valuable content.

I can understand that this is peaving you off a little. It is aggravating,.. but only when you don't expect that they'll squeeze the email out of you as a trade off. I actually don't have a problem with that but I am selective (very,..these days) as to who and what I'll sign up for. Occasionally (more rarely than not) I'll get some follow up email with another link to a report or even an email that's got some worthwhile info in it,. but the majority of idiots out there seem to feel that once they have your email subscription they can then spam you and/or fill your inbox with utter trash. Thank heavens for "unscubsription" links... which I use regularly. Once each week or two I'll spend an hour in the inbox just clearing out trash and unsubscribing...just think of it as a cleaning chore.
    Cheers!

I wouldn't mind it as much if they were not being deceptive. Really if I join your list and then you email me with a subject line say "Get your free report here" and there is no mention in th eemail that I need to subscribe to someone elses list I expect its a direct link.

      Only fair I think.

I have already started Spring cleaning here lol

If I get an email like I described I will UNSUBSCRIBE!!! Then people wonder why their members are unsubscribing....

Yes, I do agree with you John - I find it irritating too.

The price to pay for the gift is this:
    1) Time taken to subscribe, confirm optin, open new email, THEN get the download link
    2) Possible risk to SPAM, etc
    3) Your email address.

You don't know how valuable it is to allow others to take up YOUR time.

PS: Another thing I find irritating is also the bombardment by affiliates on the SAME products. And you know they are just there to try to make a quick buck.

    Hi John,

First of all, long time, no see! Good to see you on here again,
although I've been sequestered myself for a good while.

Now, to address your thread, yes. it irritates me too, to an extent.

If the email writer has done a good job, and I really want the
product in question, I'll go ahead and opt in.

Most of the time, I simply close the email, though.

I figure it's just another fad in getting emails opened that will
fade away as soon as somebody else comes up with a
new way to write subject lines to get emails opened and
everybody else jumps on the bandwagon.

I dont mind signing up to a list to grab a free download and if I dont like the product I unsubscribe but unfortunatley I am getting more and more spam so I feel there are a few unethical markerter's out ther who are sharing or selling my information which now makes me all the more aware when signing up. Nothing is for free that's for sure!

      First, to Mike Hill...

Suppose someone you knew came to you and said, "Hey Mike, happy birthday! Got a present for you... Oh, but you have to fill out this form to get it, and the store I got it from is going to start emailing you..."

Not quite a gift, is it?

"Gift" has a much different connotation than "no out-of-pocket".

John, if I get something like this, and I want the freebie, I sign up. If I don't want the freebie, and think I'm being played, I skip over pissed off and go straight to unsubscribe. Not worth wasting energy on, as getting pissed off doesn't change anything.
