Need dedicated server hosting

hey, I'd need to compare a few services
providing dedicated server hosting as my
sites are having some 500 [404-page] errors...

any ideas, are you using a dedicated server yourself?

if yes, what's your experience with them and how
much do they charge you...

People are ALWAYS raving to me about liquidweb hosting. They say the support is amazing and the servers are reliable and with all the features you need.

Personally I use hostgator dedicated servers and I can't recommend them.

So I haven't used LW yet but the next dedicated server I get will
surely be with them.

future hosting have just started doing dedicated servers, look great for the price and I cannot commend their support enough.

LiquidWeb for sure. I've been through many of the years and NONE even come close to comparing to their level of service and professionalism. Sure they cost a bit more than some but the're well worth the extra cost.

I had the same issue (500 errors) and thought I needed a dedicated server. I was talked out of it by a Warrior who told me to host all my images, videos, downloads, etc. on Amazon S3 and keep the reseller hostgator hosting.

I've had no problems since... and I pay $2-$3 a month to Amazon S3 (and that's a lot of data transfer)

Your sites will load very fast if you host all your media/downloads elsewhere. The data is pulled from the closest datacenter to the site visitor. Definitely look into it and if you do, grab the S3 plugin for Firefox (FREE).

I'm using VolumeDrive.com - they are a budget provider, but a very good one.

SoftLayer.com - are considered to be the best premium provider around

10tb.com - seems to be a happy medium. Is a SoftLayer reseller, which cheaper prices than SL.

Depends what your budget is, and whether you need full management or not.

I don't need full management, hence why I go with VolumeDrive, 10TB/SL, etc.

Now, would anyone tell me what's the difference between
"dedicated" and "managed" servers?

Would I need to do any setups to those
servers myself?

Also, how's different these from "Virtual Private Server"

I'm not really a "techie" guy, just handling
the basics... although right now I'm using
a DREAMHOST private server...

And my budget would be less
than $30 a month.

OK

Dedicated server, means that you have a server at the hosting company with only your stuff on it

Managed Server is a Dedicated server that they do all of the up keep on, they install updates, scripts (in most cases), and configure

Virtual Private Servers are essentially a Virtual Machine installed on a server, there could be several Virtual machines on each server.

For less than $30 you are looking at a Virtual Private Server although Burstent does have some Ded Servers for not much more than that.
