Hi guys, I am looking to up my marketing education and have tried both Dan Kennedy's monthly marketing newsletter and CD, and Tony Robbins "The New Money Masters" CD/DVD format (recently released Edition 1 Frank Kern and each month he interviews a new Internet marketer). I am only prepraed to subscribe for 1 at this stage (both cost around $60 a month). I like both but feel Dan's stuff is probably more helpful (and so many big name marketers seem to rate him highly). But was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the 2 - or any other newsletter/CD monthly formats that you receive that are good for internet marketing. Whilst The WF and other sites are great - I really want something to listen to in the car/ read on my lunch break at work. Would love to know who you favor ... Thanks John Hillage |

Save the monthly charge and head over to Ebay. There is a bunch of Dan Kennedy stuff there for good prices. And a ton of other great marketing audio form others. Even the older audio of Dan's and others in the marketing arena is still as relevant and can be applied to online stuff today. |

I've seen some of the Tony Robbins interviews, and they are pretty good. Dan's stuff is great as well. So, it really depends on what you are looking for; more motivational stuff, or more technique/content?

John, you might also want to check out Perry Marshall's Renaissance Club. Alternates between written newsletters and CD interviews. Good stuff, mostly (no one bats 1.000). Comes with some really nice bonuses for giving it a try. One of the things I like is that Perry finds sources outside the usual IM suspects. Otherwise, I'd go with DK... |

Perry is great if you are PPC orientated. The advantage to Dan Kennedy's stuff is if there is a local GKIC group in your area you can attend the meeting free to network with local businesses and like minded Kennedy style marketing people face to face on a regular basis. I was in Perry's MMC for 6 months and it was great, but not as much info on general marketing as here, much more PPC and some great motivational stuff, though he seems to be moving in a more general marketing direction. He is also highly ethical and would never take advantage as some with his notoriety might. (All three options seem to have high ethical standards.) When my cash got tight (medical problems) I decided on the Kennedy direction due to the local face to face networking. (I did keep my Glenn Livingston hyper responsive club membership, but I have been in it since it opened so it is only $29 a month for me. If you have the extra cash, he puts on a pretty good show!) GKIC has already (in a single local meeting) been huge in both motivation and marketing implementation & solutions. (& his 'marketing to the affluent' style really makes sense in times like this because a recession seems to not affect the affluent as much and that market can actually grow when many are in economic distress.) Interviews might be OK, but most of the information you glean from them can usually be found on the interviewee's website in the form of free content. (That is a generalized comment, I haven't heard Tony's interviews, nor know his style of interviewing). I suppose sometimes stuff is revealed that is not on their site, but most of it is just personal circumstances in nature, not as much action/direction. My take. Mark |

I might add, there are a lot of great marketers with blogs and free content. You can always pick a couple to read daily (or whenever they post). Don't pick too many or your whole day will be reading how to do stuff and you wouldn't have the energy to actually do anything. I spent 6 months learning stuff. I was in 3 MMC clubs, read Dan Kennedy's books, and read about 60 other books by the people considered 'masters' in several fields. From PPC to SEO, to copy-writing (which I still suck at), to web design, usability, find-ability buyer psychology, etc, etc, etc. It seems a successful IMer wears a lot of hats. Lol. To be successful you need either the equivalent of 19 BS degrees (ha-ha) or outsource a lot. Lately I have entered the implementation stage and backed off the day to day reading of information. This forum is the one exception as when anything changes, it comes here. Lol. (For better or worse, sometimes.) |

DK newsletter isn't what it used to be as he is not as involved. Instead, I suggest "Magnetic Marketing" off Ebay. The Tony Robbins thing is ok. Pretty much the same stories we've heard on other material. Good mindset stuff, but it's available elsewhere. |

Hey John, Both of them are good, but I know I prefer Dan's stuff hands down. For some reason he seems to put things in terms I can understand. To me, that's the most important thing when learning from someone else. Then I can put what I learn in praxis. He just seems so real and straight up about stuff. |

Well what are you looking to do exactly? Dan is more for offline marketing. Yes, you can use it for online. Psychology is psychology, online or off. But I would consider him mostly an offline guy. Either way, DK is probably my favorite of all time. I look at Tony as more of a motivational guy...even though he hates that label. Dan is the guy most people go to for marketing advice. He is, imo, one of the best. Ever. |

This is a gross simplification (that's my last name, Gross, so maybe that means I'm allowed... :-) ...But the choice between Dan Kennedy and Tony Robbins is kind of like buying an auto repair book versus buying "The Secret" if you want to fix your car. If you want to fix your car and you don't know how, buy the repair book. If you're pretty handy with tools but you're too lazy to get your butt off the couch, get motivated. Disclaimer: I'm not familiar with the Tony Robbins product you're asking about specifically, so I'm not commenting on that directly. I do know that he can hypnotize you into thinking that overweight people are skinny. Final comment: I'm not downplaying the benefit of motivation, like I said, "gross simplification". If you can't get motivated to do anything, it doesn't matter what skills or knowledge you have, it's all wasted. |
