How I used Facebook to create a following of 1.4+ million fans to my site and profit

Hey everyone, I just wanted to share a few things with you that I have learned over the past few months about marketing your website or niche on facebook and making it a HUGE hit and following. Plus how I made money from it.

Bottom line. My fan page currently has over 1.4 million fans. (Don't want to post on here but pm me if interested in seeing it) It is the fan page of an arcade site that I have. Now I want to start off by saying that I am a nobody that just does IM as a hobby and enjoys providing a product that people enjoy and want to come and see and stay a while :-) (hence the arcade)

Again, this is how I created this following and might not (spelling edited) work for everyone. First of all if you want to create a large following of people on facebook, the group or fan page MUST have an interesting title (if its not a direct niche you are looking for)

1) It's all in the name you choose.

2) Website must be related to that name in some way.

Facebook realized that I was creating a huge following and contacted me about getting the fan page authorized which I did. Basically, that confirmed that the page was directly related to the webpage and that I was the owner.

The reason this is important because fan pages with generic titles BECOME USELESS if facebook finds them. They will shut off your marketing power, your connection with your fans if you are not authenticated. Please be aware of that.

Now I have a direct marketing connection between my website (niche) and those 1.4 million fans. You can imagine the possibilities of driving traffic. I have driven almost 200,000 unique visitors to my website from facebook alone in the past 4 months.

I post status updates daily regarding new games added to the site etc and occasionally CPA offers (when allowed) relative clickbank, cafepress, all my facebook apps etc. The one thing about status updates is the fact that only the fans online at the time of post will see it (people that know facebook will understand this) But we do (once a month) send an update to all fans.

I also collect emails through becoming a member of our arcade site. Again, you can see the massive potential from all of this.

Finally, I can create groups and fan pages off of my current fans by promoting other groups or fan pages I have through status updates. The possibilities are endless.

I hope this post was a little helpful and I know I might have been a little vaque at times (I am thinking of creating an eBook detailing my process so I didn't want to give away all my info) Any questions please ask, as I will try to help you out.

    Brill! Well done!

I think the main thing here is the relationship you build with your contacts.. when they start to (as the good Mr Kern says) like, know and trust you, that's when you'll see the profits roll in.

    Well done though, inspiring stuff.

I also have a group of around 500 the last time I checked, but facebook is really good to increasing your website ranking because once you put your link in your group that is long term traffic coming in everyday, similar to article marketing with ezines. But yeah facebook is a good way to get nice autopilot traffic coming in... and it is all about building relationships as Louise said

I also have noticed this as well and am starting to get a lot of good organic traffi. I also can admit that I have not done really any backlinking to the site. That is something that will be worked on in the near future. Also am working on adding more content beyond the games, videos and forum that is on there. Building and keeping the relationships!

I hope you develop this into a WSO. I'd be interested in buying it since I want to build a Facebook fan page in the future.

Hi, thanks for the kind words and thank you all for the pms. One question that a few of you asked was about how much it cost me to get all these fans. It didnt really cost me anything because I had already had the tools in place. If you are just starting out you might have to spend around $100 or so if you wanted to follow the same method.

I would add that you need a niche that appeals to facebook users... I don't think IM would work. I would guess you need more 'hobby' or 'entertainment' style niches.

Yes I 100% agree, but also Facebook is hitting a large variety of demographics now and is only growing in this respect.

Someone asked me through PM if this was blind luck or my first effort. The answer is 100% no. I worked many different techniques in an attempt to create a winning fan page. I created lots and lots of fan pages and groups trying to hit a winner and realized it was not that easy. Took me about 8 months or so to figure out the strategy. I will be creating a WSO on this in the very near future.
