IM has revolved fast in the past five years. With more people entering in this industry with a slime hope of "killing their day jobs", what's the future of Internet Marketing?

Actually IM is pretty much the same as usual, article marketing is pretty new and so are most web 2.0 strategies, but really everything taught is usually the same. Drive traffic, build a list, and profit.

  • The scammers and spammers are all going to get taken out like trash. The rest of us will do just fine.

I predict that e-mail lists will be nearly worthless within the next few years. It's going to be about pull, not push.

According to stats that I get from several companies that actually do extensive research on this have said that email marketing is actually becoming more profitable. Email lists will continue to be worthy... if your good at it.

The future of internet marketing is marketing to other galaxies and solar systems.

Hopefully by the time that is a possibility, we'll be out of the boom/bust "fossil fuel" monetary slave society and we'll be concentrating on more important things other than generating revenue to feed people's materialism

That said, the past of Internet Marketing was posting chapters of a book on BBS's with advertising and physical addresses to send checks to to buy the full book. Then was Newsgroup marketing, that also went the way of the dodo.

I think the future of Internet marketing in the near term will be more interactivity also offering products for free and asking for a donation of any amount, if they felt that product was beneficial. You see more of this in the music arena, with bands offering albums for free and asking for a donation ... and generating more money than if they sold physical CDs through retailers.

In the possible long term will see an increase of interactive, MMORPG style worlds where business is carried out. If you saw the Michael Douglas film Disclosure with the interactivity goggles/glove/walkpad, then add that with a SecondLife/Sims style interface. There is holographic programming that can create touch. Since the physical body is electrical, you can plug into a 3D matrix to view a range of stores, where you can touch the products and maybe even taste the products since taste is also electrical impulses. Even offer a world such as that shown in the recent films Gamer and Surrogates where your electrical impulses control physical machines in the world. There are lots of marketing opportunities if this route is taken.

      Interactive Hologram:

  • The future is taxation and government regulation. The 2 things that will put a real damper on what you can pull off. You can expect more security software and browser plugins to kill your cookies as well.

If you are a real business and looking to hedge your bets you'll take notice that regulation and taxation are already occurring.

So sell products to make it easier to deal with taxation and regulation.

If you think of the Internet as media
it has the same future as other media.

Newspapers, slowing down but still there.
      Magazines,
      Radio,
      TV,
      Direct Mail,

Many years ago when TV came on the scene, people
      said radio was dead.

All media needs content and advertisers.

So I think we are good for awhile.

It'll all stay, taxation is difficult since everyone lives in so many different places, just be sure to pay your income tax (if you have one)

Digital products will only get bigger, with the kindle and barnes and noble thing out.
