I disagree, up to a point. Converting traffic is more key than just "traffic".

I agree with jazbo, if you can't convert all the traffic in the world won't do you any good.

Targeted Traffic is what you want. If you have a product about baseball then sending a million people that are interested in needlepoint isn't going to do you much good.

Conversion is the key. I have had several attempts that brought lots of traffic, but only got looky-lookers or competitors and had trouble converting to sales.

Successful IM'ing is multifactorial. All the pieces have to fit and work together to generate sales. This is likely why the "overnight" successes are so rare for someone just starting out in this business. I would think someone with years of experience and several successful sales under their belts have a much better chance of making significant income off of a product launch or new endeavor - they have the experience that can make all the pieces of the puzzle come together more quickly than a newbie - one piece being traffic generation.

I agree with Liquification. Targeted traffic is best for any IM business, it's no point selling a money making course to a weight loss crowd, your conversions will be . I have read up on some info on targeted traffic, Here are 4 killer tips to bring targeted traffic to your site:

        1. Use article marketing - It's free and writing articles is easy. You can learn to create quality article content even if you've never written an article before. This is one of the best ways to drive targeted traffic to your site and it's completely free.

        2. Use forum marketing - The Internet is full of some great forums and you can even easily set up your own if you want to. For this to work, you just need to join a community and spend some time contributing to the community. Don't spam and don't look at it as just a way to blatantly advertise your sites. Instead, be a real part of the community and give something valuable and it will come back to you.

        3. Use social media - Social networks are a great place to get traffic to your website. MySpace, Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites are a great place to build a community and bring traffic back to your site from people who are already interested in your topic or niche.

        4. Give them something for free - Who doesn't love something for free? Offer a free eBook or e-course or some other type of program on your website and then put the word out through the above sources.

        Hope that helps

You must get targeted as just traffic is no good. I have had sites where I ot around 260 unique visitors and only 2 sales that was the old days now I try my best to get laser targeted traffic as the conversion rate is high.

Hmmm, well I have to admit that my next project involves creating a traffic based site so yeah, traffic is the lifeblood of anyones internet business.

Generating the big T (or maybe TT which = targeted traffic) is what puts food on your table (not to mention the Lotus carb), so never think that traffic isn't important..

Conversion is the next step - but to be honest most folks here can walk that step once they have the customer

Traffic is really so important and without traffic a website will not get any business but one more important thing is traffic should be relevant to your site, irrelevant traffic does not benefit you.

With untargeted traffic, you'll get some conversions.

With no traffic, you'll get no conversions.

Therefore, the first one wins (Duh.)

Plus, it's much easier to write a salescopy to CONVERT the traffic than to bring that actual traffic in. Making it, once again, the most important factor.

It's the classic chicken & egg scenario that will never be answered properly.

My opion is that you need to have a constant source of traffic before you start looking at conversions. Also you really need to consider if you have the right offer, I've seen lots of data that shows you should give away great content to build your list, and then sell to those who are qualified enough to give you their email rather than just having a straight salespage.

The only common answer will be that you must have your own product / service, just sending all your traffic to an affiliate page may make you money in the short term, but you're just building someone else's list.
