These guys were thinking outside the box

I have never heard of this before because I don't think it's been done. Tying small ads to flies and letting them loose on a trade show floor.

See there are still unique ideas that have not been tried

What would really bug me about this is that after all the effort nobody was reading the ads.

There was still an element missing from the equation. Perhaps if they had used tissue painted to resemble money the ads might have gotten noticed.

Still, you could see the flies caused a lot of buzz...

I don't think those guys even remember where they left their box.

Who in their right mind thinks an idea like that would fly? No pun intended. To most people flies would signify that their event is too close to a trash dump, not as an innovative marketing tactic.

    Cool idea though.

I wanna know how they trained the flies to sit there while they waxed the ads on them??

Of course in order to see the ads one would have to swat the flies, and I can't imagine trying to read an ad with fly guts all of it...

Interesting though. Would have been funny if the weight of the ads were to heavy and the flies just crawled around aimlessly hoping that someone would melt the wax off of them so they could be "ad free" and go back to doing what flies do.

Ads and flies...good symbology in helping to associate ads with annoying things.

You put them in the fridge, they don't move when they're cold.

Just don't put them in my fridge...

Brilliant.. that certainly flies in the face of what's normal.

I love this. It's outrageous marketing that creates a buzz. ( I really didn't try to use a pun that time)

Somebody at the event could have had flyswatters with their business message imprinted on them to get their own publicity out of this.

Yeah like a competitor. But that wouldn't work because unlike the flies, fly swatters wouldn't go to the people themselves, they'd need to be handed out and that's just silly in my opinion.

A fly with an ad sitting on you is annoying in a "good" way. Someone handing out fly swatters is annoying in a "bad" way.

              Thanks,

If you see a fly on your body immediate reaction will be dust it off. Who will look at it leisurely and see the ad and moreover read it?

I really don't understand how people read those ads?

It's a gimmick. The story of the company that blew most of their budget on one SuperBowl ad is much the same. They didn't expect to get any business from the ad itself, but from the coverage and buzz it created.

      LOL...Too funny!

      I can see it now.

A guy goes into Wendy's and lets 20 flies loose with banners saying,
"Glad you could join us" or "I like the fries" or "Been there done that, Thanks!"...lol

      Have a Great Day!

Great way to create some buzz, ideas like that have not much choice but to become viral, much like a bad bug. It really flies in the face of traditional marketing methods.

If you tried that at a US trade show you would probably have PETA up your ass 7 different ways making headlines about "your thoughtless and inhumane cruelty towards the poor, innocent flies" within 24 hours ;-)

Very cool and creative idea though...

But I've always associated flies with garbage and dead animals, and something tells me that maybe this really shows that sometime "thinking outside of the box" isn't such a good idea.
