Default Have you ever questioned your ability to succeed?

I have had a pretty successful career in just about everything I've tried to do. I started micro businesses and I've done high level consulting as well as spent 12 years as a mergers and acquisitions adviser.

I've even considered starting a coaching program for downsized execs that want to transition into business ownership. The progrm would walk them through the process of buying their own mid sized business without spending one dime of their own money nor going to banks to get loans.

My new project is to build a nice sustainable affiliate marketing business. But somehow I have questioned my ability to succeed.

I have no idea how I got to that point but I seem to have fallen into a slump.

Heck, affiliate marketing is not at all hard but for some odd reason my mind keeps telling me I need more knowledge before I pull the trigger. I am no affiliate marketing guru nor do I want to be but I have a great basic understanding of all the process. I am not the best copywriter but I can get by.

I've got all the damn tools anyone would want-keyword tool, Xsitepro, SEO knowledge, access to the WF. I've even been accepted into Linkshare and Pepperjam.

I find it weird because I've worked on very complex transactions and I learned as I moved along on the project.

Has anyone ever experienced this before. How did you get out of the slump and push forward?

I am not talking about being depressed I am speaking from a business/career perspective only.

Ron,

I'm one of those downsized execs you spoke about. I was just layed off after 9 years with the company at the end of September. Took me about a week to get over the shock.

I have to admit, it was my wife and kids who got me over the hump. My kids because they're depending on me for their very survival. My wife because she's a ruthless slave driver... er, I mean, effective motivator. ;-)

So, rather than go whole hog back into the job search (I do have my resume out with headhunters, but I'm not focusing on that), I've spent the past couple of weeks developing a product and now I'm working on putting up a site to sell it.

It comes down to having something that drives you. It could be making a better life for you loved ones. Or it could be something more personal, like fulfilling your own dreams or the satisfaction of conquering a new challenge.

Whatever that motivation is, once you find it, you'll be unstoppable.

Danton,

Thanks for the words. You have a great wife.

I've some how lost my edge or should I say focus.

I have no time to back track and figure out what went wrong. I just know i don't like my current state of mind. Hell, I did not take one single phone call this week.

I've no time for the excuses.

Good luck Danton.

Ron

You are not alone, there must be thousands with the same mindset. My only concern for you was that your last post might be interpretated as someone who was depressed? There's a difference between being unmotivated for one area of your life and being in the wrong mindset for all areas.

As far as motivation for the business thrust goes I wholly agree with Danton, being clear about WHY you want to do this really does help.

All the best
Regards
Bobby

Hey Ron, yes this happened to me after a traumatic event which I won't get into.

I fell back into 'buying mode' and once I started seeing similarities between products I was like, "Okay, no more excuses" and it's been gravy since
