I would feel really great about those testimonials, but I don't. They are fake, created with an online testimonial generator. This is NOT the way to get testimonials. I hope no one here does that. It's one good way to lose everything including your reputation.

I agree with you, it will hurt you in the end.
The problem is that many people do it that way.
You wouldn't believe how many ebooks and income claims I saw that are just fake.
Also the Clickbank images with "proof of income" are fake (most of them).

It is hard to find something that works these days.
I'm on the internet for 10 years now and there aren't may products that live up to what they claim.

Luckely I know what works these days.

Hope you will make that 100K sometime or even teach someone.

I bought Scott Ames product and it did exactly what he said it would do. Just like he told me it would. The man must be a fortune teller he was so spot on about how his product would work. I never got off my butt to do anything with it, or put anything into action and I got squat. Yes.. exactly. I found several on the web. I couldn't believe it. Just type in the product name and presto.. you have a testimonial ready to copy. I can't believe anyone would use those and I can't believe anyone thought it would be a good idea.

I agree with you Scott, fake testimonials is definitely a NO NO and why would one want to risk their entire life which is pretty much what they are risking when using fake testimonials.

It's very easy to acquire legitimate testimonials for your product or service, though the only reason why the bad marketers out there use fake testimonials is because they have really lousy products and services.

it is so sad to see that more and more people are selling their integrity and honesty for money, but again 99% of the product and services i see online, are full of fake testimonials and untruthful information.
at the same time i blame the buyers also for not being smart enough to think for a second and ask this simple question from themselves:" if this product/service is that good for helping me make that much money in no time, then how come the seller is going through all this trouble of creating an E-book,video,audio, getting a website, hosting, sale page and.... just to sell this product to me for $50 bux or so, instead of easily making the money he/she is promising me to make if i buy this?"

but of course that doesn't justify the act of the seller. it is unfortunate that we as human being are becoming such unethical and carless animals that just to make another bux, we are willing to lie and cheat, even if that means ruining someone else's dreams and hopes.

A big part of the problem is simply that many newcomers to IM blindly follow what they're told to do and/or see when it comes to testimonials (as well everything else in IM).

Firstly, do you absolutely need testimonials? Not really - I hardly ever use them myself

Should you carefully test your conversions with/without/with a specific number of testimonials? Absolutey - and be prepared to be surprised!

A lot of testimonials seemingly add social proof to a product, but speaking from a consumer perspective, why would you trust the word of someone you don't know, just because they might be well known to some degree?

Whenever I see a testimonial from someone I know and regularly communicate with, social proof goes up a notch in my book, because I can talk to them directly about it and evaluate the testimonial in the context of what I know about that person.

On the other hand, when I see a testimonial from someone I know of, the social proof meter wiggles but doesn't move. Knowing of someone is far different than knowing someone.

Now, re-read this comment:

As with anything, there are no absolutes - except perhaps the need to carefully test the various elements of your sales process in the context of your target market.

And lastly, going along with Scott's OP, you want to think long and hard before you start flat out making things up. That's short-sighted at best and bound to land you in a heap of trouble.

I am having a roaring time reading this thread. Crazy stuff! I apologize but a testimonial is given by a customer who originally finds substance in your offer.

You can't fake it and people who actually buy these "testimonial softwares" are doing an unethical job. You can't ask a client what to write. It's got to come from within. You must be complete to get a testimonial that's complete.

Copywriters and marketers often turn a blind eye to what the customer wants and then go on focusing to hit sales. If you don't have a great product and you make a sale, I think you got to be kidding me. You're annoying people by just being a "hippo" who guns for blood.

And these days people don't believe testimonials either. Neither does the FTC LOL. The only way to make a sale is to have a great offer on the table. Irresistible!

If you can't connect with your customers, your work is baseless. Be able to substantiate your claims with credible proof, not some lazy gimmick "testimonial". Testimonial is confidence. It gives confidence to a person. Don't fool people off. Be honest. Play safe. Be the right wing.
