Asian accent in an Internet Marketing video??

Hey Warriors..

Just kinda need some encouragement and motivation from you guys here..

You see... I am an Chinese Asian, from Singapore and I've been the the Internet Marketing industry for close to 1.5 years now.

This November, will be the first time I am launching a pretty huge affiliate website and I am thinking of using videos to generate leads, and promote products.

Problem is, despite my excellent command of English, my voice carries a Chinese Asian accent. And thats the thing that's freaking me out.

I see no point in doing a voiceover because I wanna brand my personality, yet, I fear that potential subscribers and customers will be turned off my an Asian English accent.

I mean.. think about it... almost ALL the videos in the IM industry are created by Westerners right, be it Americans or Australians or English?

What would the reaction be if people who came to my website, watched my videos and realise I am a Chinese.

God... sometimes i wish I was born an Amercian

In my experience, people like accents. Helps them feel like it's a real person on the other end, and not some used car salesman.

Oh yes.. any of you know of any good stuff out there( courses, software, websites etc) that teaches people how to produce good videos meant for the IM industry?

I m a complete noob when it comes to the technical stuff.

No matter what you sound like, if the product is great, and you have great copy, I can care less. The more practice you have, the better you will become over time. Just do the videos and get over it. I will judge you according to the product and copy, not your accent. Hope this gives you some encouragement.

It's the content which is the important thing not the accent. If you are getting good value from the content you don't even notice any accent.

If the speaker really believe's in what he is saying this also has an affect, sincerity will always trump falseness.

Yeah, there are some very popular Asian IM'ers who have thick accents and they still do videos. I'm not sure how it affects conversions, but obviously people are still doing very well despite this "drawback".

good personality that stands out, use it!

Hey fellas...

You know... I wasn't always so disheartened until one day, I was approached by Amit Mehta and Anik Singal from PPC Classroom

They knew I was one of their top students and invited me to do a written and video testimonial for their new PPC Classroom 3.0

I was so eager and naturally, I DID MY BEST, for both testimonial formats. I was eagerly awaiting for the launch of their pre-launch website and when it was finally launched.. boy... I was so disheartened. my video wasnt used.

No doubt my written testimonial was used in their free report.. I still cant help wondering whether it was my Asian accent that put them off.

Not that I am blaming ANik or AMit, they are fabulous guys, and I swear by it.. just maybe its my luck..

Oh well.. thanks for all the kind comments people.. do stay tuned to this thread. I'll post my site here the first thing its launched.

The accent would not be an issue to me, I've seen several great instructional videos created by people with Chinese and Indian accents and they have been awesome.

While it might be cool to have Patrick Stewart narrate your video in the long run it's the information that counts.

You might want to ask John Chow or Ewen Chia if an accent has affected their business. It doesn't matter ... it's the message that matters.

I think you need to stop worrying about this, bud. You're spending too much thought and energy on this. And that's thought and energy you could be putting toward your offer, your product, your sales funnel, etc..

If you're confident in who you are (no matter what you're doing in life) people will be attracted to you. Trust me

I wouldn't worry about your accent at all. I have heard some videos online that have such strong accent you have to listen close to even figure out what is being said, but the content is great. That's okay. I think it as also an encouragement to others with accents.

I also agree that sometimes accents are actually a plus to crediblity. With so many people trying to sound like "voiceovers", it's refreshing to hear "real people" just being who they are.

Ewen Chia is Asian chinese from Singapore and he has an Asian accent.

he's videos are fine

and i am sure you will be fine aswell.

Just make sure to speak clear and slow

If we can understand you, and you have a good story to tell, the accent should not be an issue.

I would not worry about your accent. Focus on giving us a good reason to keep listening.

But seriously...if you have something good to say, why should it matter what your accent is like?

Anik and Amit didn't use your video testimonial? I honestly don't think your accent is why they didn't use it. I'm sure they had way more than they could've used, so they had to leave some out. Besides, it would have made them look better to use testimonials from people all over the world to show that anyone anywhere can do well with their training.

It don't really matter about accents bryan. I mean Ewen Chia is chinese I think and he is doing very well for himself, he is like the number one best super affiliate and he has recieved alot of trophies. So don't be put off by your accent, it really matters about the content that the customer would want to see.

Look at Ewen Chia...He is from Singapore and is doing very well! I personally wouldn't worry about your accent if you speak English well! Go for it and don't even worry about it!
