Wordpress 2.8.5 Problem

Is it just my imagination or a strange glitch in my system, or did they remove the html edit mode from WP 2.8.5? Or maybe they moved it to some other location?

Just looked at one of my sites - 2.8.5 definitely - and the html editing tab is right where it always was.

Try logging out and logging back in again. If that doesn't work, I'd definitely back up the database etc, just in case something odd is happening.

Really? This is really weird. I was just congratulating myself for updating a really, REALLY old version of Wordpress (1.5) up to 2.8.5 without a hitch. I had to change the template to a newer one, but that seemed to be the only very minor problem. Everything else is working fine. I've added posts and pages, and they've published fine. But now I have a page I want to massage the html and there are no tabs on the post box. I tried logging in and out as you suggested, without it helping. Are the tabs in the same place (i.e., upper right of the posting box)?

Should be under Appearance -> Theme Editor

Editing the html of a specific post? There's nothing in theme editor that will allow you to edit posts. WP has a visual mode and an html mode for posts, which is what seems to be missing from this install. I'm going to save the database and reinstall it, see if that fixes the problem.

        LIndaB,
I'm still using 2.8.4 and as you say, the Visual and HTML mode tabs are in the upper right of the posting box...

    Hi Linda

2.8.5 does indeed have the HTML editor feature - and let's hope that every release of WordPress retains this feature as it's invaluable in many cases.

You may be experiencing the same strange WordPress phenomenon that 2 of my test sites ran into a few weeks ago (they were 2.8.4). For no reason that I have been able to determine both sites (on different servers) were suddenly missing the Page Attributes section - the area where you could setup Parent and Child pages. Some research on WordPress's forum didn't help resolve it, nor did looking at all the settings, removing plugins or changing themes.

The "solution" was to backup the sites and reinstall WordPress. They are now working properly.

It's a bit drastic but perhaps a reinstallation will be the easiest way for you to resole your missing editor issue. Otherwise my only other suggestion is to try removing your plugins and see if that clears things up - you may have a plugin that isn't compatible with 2.8.5.

Go into your WP admin area. then

and make sure the "Disable the visual editor when writing" button is unchecked. It could have been switched in the upgrade.

Greg, you're a genius! I went into my profile and the box WAS unchecked. But just for kicks I checked the box, saved, then unchecked the box and saved again. That solved it. I now have the tabs back. I had totally forgotten about that setting being in the Profile area. Thanks for the great suggestion. And thanks to all the others who posted as well. Even if you've been using WP for years, there are still tricks to be learned.
