I like PPC advertising, but it is important that the publisher and advertiser become a partnership to both profit from the sale. I've been testing various offers starting with the infamous revenue share model ranging from 40% to 60% in order to make the relationships work. Now comes the new CPD cost per download in which affiliates are simply paid for the free trial version download, but one must understand the difference between a click and a download. Downloads are just that, a complete download of the free trial version.
Next is pay-per-click advertising which is easier and more cost effective, but requires lots of quality traffic from the affiliate. Many affiliates compete for popular keywords, driving the bid prices up and up to crazy prices for everyone involved. I suggest to bid on more keywords even hundreds or thousands in order to figure out all those great and secret keyword combinations.
Finally the big one, which all affiliates dream to aspire is CPM, which gives the affiliate a monthly set salary, while advertisers like the simplicity, test campaigns are needed to make sure money is not lost in hours if not days without any true results.
