Hey Warriors, I keep getting emails from people saying "this is something the Gurus don't want you to know", "the Gurus won't tell you this" or "don't listen to the Gurus" etc.... I'm reading them thinking - "yeah, ok - and I suppose you have the secret answer they've been hiding and you're practically giving it away" (practically being the operative word). If you're new to Internet marketing and being fed crap about 'the gurus' - let me tell you a little secret. It's all BS. Most of the people getting referred to as Gurus are just normal people like you who (maybe) have made some decent money and gotten their name known to a bunch of people. Many of the people you may consider Gurus are actually not especially clever or even interesting. They're just people who did something and made some money - some of them even made their first money doing things they would attack you for doing now. Some of them even did a little spamming. Some of them are barely literate and not able to pass on what worked for them because it either doesn't work any more, or they don't really understand why it's working. There are a few who are above average intelligence and interesting and charismatic people, but this is not Hollywood - people who make money come in all shapes and sizes and are no different (essentially to you). Most people referring 'the Gurus' are just using the term because they haven't reached the level of success they're looking for and use it as both a way to make you think they can tell/sell you something that 'the Gurus' won't - or because they're still jealous that those people are doing so much better. Don't let anyone blind-side you with BS about 'secrets that the Gurus won't tell you'. There really isn't much that anyone could tell you that you couldn't find out from someone else. I don't want to name names, but some Gurus couldn't tell you anything about seo, some couldn't tell you about PPC, some couldn't tell you about video marketing, social marketing etc.... No-one knows everything. That's not a bad thing, it's a reflection of the fact that to be effective it makes sense to have experts in all areas and not try to be the expert in everything yourself (You can never achieve it, it's a moving goal) Do you think for a minute that someone who is successfully making top dollars in their online business is less likely to tell you what works than someone who isn't? In fact, they're much more likely to be able to. I get criticised a lot for giving things away that I 'should' be selling. People say it devalues products when some people give theirs away - it makes it harder for others to charge. But, the thing I've noticed is that the people who make such criticisms are the ones who are still struggling - no 'guru' has ever told me not to give stuff away - in fact, they generally like to do the same. So, in my personal experience (I've met most of the current big names in IM) - the Gurus who you're being told are not going to tell you what you need to know - are actually the best people to hook up with if you DO want to find out what really works. Don't let anyone make you think that successful people are the enemy or that successful people are by nature out there to rip you off or hide essential information. Internet Marketing is just an activity and you're a person - we're all just people the same as you. We all only have 24 hours in a day and we all have bad days and good days. Now is as good a time as there ever has been to create an online income - so don't like anyone make you put up barriers to paying attention to success and the trail it leaves from others out there making it happen. Use your brain - do your own thing, but learn from the people who are further down the road than you - not just a little further - but right at the end of the road where your goals are. Andy |

Nice post Andy. Yeah I guess saying things like "the gurus don't want you to know this" really sparks curiosity in the reader, and implies you're being let in on some huge secret used by the big boys, that will allow you to finally make the big bucks online. And as everybody knows, secrets sell!

Great post Andy ... I laugh at those that say "buy this, this is what the gurus will not tell you" .. I say to myself, yeah and guess what I guess I will never be told because I sure am not going to buy it from you either... James |

Yep ... Creating a site with a free html editor does not make you a website designer Creating a info product and selling it does not make you a internet marketer Copy and past free open source code does not make you a coder Owning a website does not make you a webmaster The list goes on and on.... Because people must label things. James | |

It's just a marketing tactic...who cares? Them vs. us It works really well. Not that I use it on any of my pages, but I have used similar comparisons and have had some really successful results with it. |

| True that. After watching Mass Control 2.0 my whole perspective on "Renegade Marketer who divulges secrets Guru's would kill him for" theme changed completely.

Any real gems of worth last for not very long. Any guru espousing eternal knowledge and secrets is akin to a drug company saying they have a cure all. Bottom line gurus make themselves money! |

Once I happened to be outside a venue of an Elton John concert and watched him leave. He ran past 3 limos and got into a police car that took him to a helicopter. When people came out and started waiting to see him I told them "he is already gone" . People started accusing me of working for Elton and telling them he was gone to throw them off. So... what Guru are you working for? huh?? |
