Thief Stole My Content. But Search Engines Indexed His Site, Not Mine!

Hi Warriors,

What would you do if someone stole your content without giving you credit? His site was indexed, so he was given credit not me!

And what makes me fuming mad is that people praised him for his "wonderful writing style" in this article which is mine!

Shall I blast him with hell words in the comment section? What would you do?

Thanks,
Michael

I'd send an email to him at the most and get back to making money to be honest. I gave up trying to police an infinite number of probs on the net long ago. As soon as I'd squash one, another would pop up to replace it.

Wow.. I guess you could... beat him with a stick or something maybe.

What he did is low, but I guess nothing really surprises me anymore.

Send him an email. Threaten to sue him (even though you are probably not going to). Blast it out in the comments section. Use social media to let everybody know. Bash him as hard as you can. Don't be nice.

Legally it's called a 'cease and desist' letter.

What would be sweeter would be to take it as a challenge and use your SEO techniques to bump this guy out of place..and to threaten him of course.

This will prove to be a nice practice and challenge for your SEO skills.

Remember we SEO people has got an unfair advantage. Review all of the article marketing techniques in other threads and show this guy who's boss.

    Hi Michael,

This has happened to me in the past.

I just ignore it and get on with other stuff.

People who try and run a successful business by riding on other peoples work almost always fall over pretty quickly as they're adding no value and they can't perform without you doing a good job in the first place. Ultimately they can't follow up on your good work and they'll come unstuck -but the more time you spend on thinking about them - the worse their affect on your business is.

Just do what you can to prevent it happening again and move on.

I've seen people have this situation many times and usually they're thinking these other people are making a ton of money off their work, but it's usually not true, it's just an easy way to offload responsibility for their own lack of results so not only does it detract from your business but it can serve people with negative mindsets even worse by giving them ammunition to feed their negative list of reasons why they're not as successful as they 'should' be.

I'm not saying this is you, just that I've seen it.

I've had a similar situation twice in the last month. The first took an entire day of my time to get the material removed. It was necessary because it was a complete copy of one of my most popular original content pages - photos and all. Fortunately, mine was indexed earlier although on the same day. Google removed their listing.

The second incident was yesterday and I was really perplexed because it was a forum poster that appeared to be posing as me. Fortunately, Warriors helped me out with that one...

I think Andy and the others are right. I've probably wasted more than 14 hours on this stuff. I could have written at least 7 more original and fun to read articles in that time. In other words a Writing Blast seems to be the best response. Plus, I don't like letting thieves live rent-free in my brain all day.

      Good luck to you,
      Shy

Wipe your mouth and move on..

        Seriously... you have two options:

Let it consume you and get annoyed.. or take the high road safe in the knowledge that YOU are doing the good thing and the universe will reward you.

        Bear this in mind:

        You reap what you sow!

Good or bad.. including the schmuck who ripped off your words...

        Peace

Well, if you have proof is your own content I would go against him legally. Because he should at least say the source of the content. If he had stolen the content from one of the big guys, he would be ****ed. Imagined if he stole some content from some big name.. the guys would be all over him.

To shout at him, or tell him some shit at the posts comments wouldn't be of much help. But it could be good.. so his users could know who he really is. But probally he would delete your comments anyway.

The writing style is yours and always will be. So, you have the advantage of being able to write more stuff in your own wonderful style. This guy will never be able to do that or he probably wouldn't have stolen your stuff to begin with.

I feel your pain Mike. You could always send him an email updating him on the fact that your content is protected private intellectual property and that you will contact his hosting company unless you see he has credited you as the author with the link you decree he use.

That should light the proverbial fire under his rear and if not,

looks like a phone call to the host is in order.

I'm not saying to get all worked up over it but just that the email and phone call
are proactive steps that can be done quickly to get the needed results.

  • About three months ago, someone scraped my blog content and beat me in the SERP's for that particular post. Now, three months later, MY blog post is there, but that scraped content is nowhere near where I am.

It may be that, over time, the actual date and time content appears is figured into the SERP's...
