what do you use for social bookmarking?

Hello,

I have read previous threads about social bookmarking tools but things seem to change quite quickly because of better tools and general changes in IM. I still submit to social bookmark sites manually but I want to get a tool to automate it. I tried onlywire but never seemed to be able to get it to work right and socialbookmarker doesn't work well with my computer for some reason and the thing keeps going wonky. What do you use?

I stopped using a lot of social stuff but at one time ( about a month ago) i still had setup a way to promote with my email to all my social sites.

I used pingfm and then connected the ping account to all the available social sites it offers.

Then I would just post to the email address that pingfm gives you and it would trickle all over the place.

If you use this, keep the post short, like twitter short because twitter is an option as well as others that only take short posts.

For each social site you sign up to that pingfm supports, connect it as well to all of the rest.

It will take some time to do, but not much and when you are done, you will have a traffic monster.

My problem was getting targeted traffic but I easily pulled 10 - 20 visitors per post within 5 minutes of posting.

I averaged about 50 - 200 visits per day.

Make sure you use tracking on your links as well.

I've never heard of this before, sounds pretty good though, thanks for sharing it.

I also meant to say in the OP, what is the general feeling about automating social bookmarking with the likes of socialbot and demon and others?

I have used Andrew's approach with one additional twist. I have my blog software set up to automatically send an email like this - "New Blog Post {blog entry title} {blog url}" - to my pingfm email every time I add an entry to my blog.

Hi Andrew. I use Expression Engine as my content management system. It's the only CMS I know that will do this, but I haven't used many others. I'd be surprised if there weren't other systems that would do the same thing, although I haven't found any others yet. Awhile back, I was writing an article for an online membership site a friend of mine and I were working on, and I wanted to find all the blogging packages that would do this - but alas, Expression Engine was the only one I could find.

I've noticed that Expression Engine isn't talked about much on the forums here (WordPress is obviously very popular), so it makes sense I think for me to go into a bit of detail. Hope it doesn't bore anyone!

Expression Engine allows you to set up a number of "weblogs" (which is a bit of a holdover from when the company that develops Expression Engine was more of a blogging tool company than a content management system developer) - in the soon-to-be released version 2.0 of the software, they will be called "channels." The basic idea is that they hold content.

Each weblog can be set up to send a notification to multiple email addresses when a new entry is made into the weblog. I set that address to my pingfm address.

The system also allows you to set up the template of the email notification using a few different variables. The two that I use are the title of the entry and the permalink of the entry - to form the "New blog post: {blog entry title} {blog entry url}" email (although I misspoke slightly in my first email - I'm actually sending people to the permalink of the entry, not just to the main blog url).

So every time I post an entry to my blog, the title of the entry and its permalink gets pushed out to my Twitter account, my Facebook account, my LinkedIn account, and any other social networking accounts connected to my pingfm account. It's been awhile since I looked at it, but I think I also have my delicious account getting the notifications. If I were more vigilant, I would be more connected in the social media world and would be pushing my entries out to even more sites.

I call this a "Digital Publishing System."

To be honest, I haven't blogged in awhile because I'm really, really busy with my day job and a major outside project as well. But the system is there waiting for me when I go back to blogging more faithfully (I plan to also set up the same system for a few other blogs I have that I hope someday to be able to devote more time to) - the blog where I have it set up now was my testing grounds.

The one other thing that I think is important is to also use pingfm to post other items (interesting links, books I'm reading, etc., etc.) so that my social media updates don't become a constant stream of new blog post entries.

Does that make sense?

Usually I start by hitting up Onlywire, then I finish off some of the ones it misses (inevitably) with SocialMarker and then I send a little message to Ping.fm (note that I don't have the ones I have in Ping.fm setup in Onlywire, too... FB,Twitter,FriendFeed,Myspace...I essentially have the ones that are "bookmarkers" in OnlyWire and the ones that are "Walls" in Ping.fm)

Works pretty darn well actually and the process takes about 10 minutes. Well, not including the initial hour or so setup.

there's a WSO by Manicmarketer that explains more on how to drive TRAFFIC to your site by automizing it and PINGFM was one of the tactic and explained very well!! Get it mate and you'll be thankful for that info..

and if you can afford $12 I suggest you to get SOCIALBOT (social bookmarking software) as it'll help you submit your links to more than 80 sites..

Hi Andrew. Sorry, but I'd have a hard time working with a company (or using its tool) when the company seems to have blatantly ripped off the design of another company's website, even down to using much of the same copy.

I'm new here so I'm not allowed to post links yet, but if you search on "expression engine" at Google, the first result is to the Expression Engine website. The sitemanpro.com website looks very similar to the Expression Engine website.

I sincerely hope I'm wrong, and that I've missed something, but ....
