How to get started In IM with $0

Despite what you might read or think IM is not hard, it's also not easy and you won't make $1000 in your first week. But that doesn't mean that you can't make a sucessful business out of IM.

In reality it's a very simple process but mastering the simple steps takes time. Depending on what you are doing i would recommend that you treat your first sites as an apprenticeship, don't be afraid to fail and just accept the fact that You learn more by your failures than your sucesses.

So how do you make money with no money to start with.

For your first site you are going to need some money for domains and hosting (yes you could use free sites but this is a business so we are going to treat it like a business and be professional)

so our first target is to earn $10 to pay for a domain and hosting.

1.Offer to provide a service.

It doen't matter if you have no skills there are simple mundane things you can do to earn money. I paid a guy $10 today to manually post some of my articles to different article directories. So what if it takes 5 hours and you only earn $10 that 5 hours has allowed you to start on the path to
$$$$$$

2. Take the Income from the services you have performed and buy a Domain and hosting. Godaddy always have coupon offers for arounf $6.99 and hostgator have a 1 cent offer for the first month if you use the code "iceishot".

3. Now you have the hosting and a domain you just need to research a niche using free tools and resources, create content, some for the blog and some to distribute.

Above all keep it simple, there are enough threads here giveing you free advice on how to build simple money making sites. Start with something like adsense, it's easy to get an account, google won't rip you off and you'll learn loads that will be useful when you move onto more profitable avenues.

Does this approach work...yes, it's how I started 5 years ago and I haven't worked a real job since day 1.

Just remember all the problems and hassle you have at the beginning is the means to an end.

good luck

    Mark T.,

This is good, straight-forward advice. But for someone like me who is just starting out, perhaps you could expand on it a little. Especially the item contained in the quote above...

Where do I go to advertise that I have a service to offer, or where can I search to find out what kinds of services people may need?

I would appreciate any help you could give.

    Thanks,
    Mark J.

      Mark,

There are lots of places to offer your services, I would advise looking around at the services that are being offered in the warriors for hire section to get an idea of what services are needed, you might find that you have skills that are in demand.

Then join a site like Odesk or microworkers.com and find people looking for people to do work for them. Once you've earned money and gained experience you can always place an ad in the warriors for hire section yourself.

      Hope that helps

I don't know if this is the right thing to do but if you need a domain and hosting you may have one of mine free of charge until you feel ready to move.

I have about 21 domains with blogs setup on them and you can pick and choose.

Also, I have an account at the ultimate marketing center and if you need me to set you up with an autoresponder until you get up and running I can do that as well.

Last but not least, I can hook you up with jvmanager as an ecommerce platform.

      If interested, PM me.

Mark another way is to earn that $ for hosting and domain.. There are free hosting and websites out there. Most of us started on a free space at some point.

You can get a blogger blog for free and start on that ... Then follow the below plan..

If you are just starting out and you do not know what to do and your funds are very low or even nothing, then you can start with the below plan and build on it from there.

Let's say I just started this great blog and now I need traffic so before I go give my great content away for free to some over glorified adsense article directory I think I will try the following...

      - Bookmark my new blog:
Digg - The Latest News Headlines, Videos and Images
Clipmarks - What are you finding on the web?
      Home | Propeller
Faves: Sites you'll love, from people like you
Mister Wong | Social Bookmarking Tool (twitter function built in)

      * Those above will get you indexed in google with no
problem, digg and clipmarks can have you
      indexed in 10 minutes.

      - Create 3 new articles similar to my blog content and turn them into PDF with links to my blog and upload it to sites such as:
      Scribd
Upload & Share PowerPoint presentations and documents
Docstoc ? Documents, Templates, Forms, Ebooks, Papers & Presentations

      * fully fill out the profile and since I posted 3
documents there is also an auto poster for twitter
and facebook on Scribd - so I will tweet and post to facebook.

      - Locate my Rss Feeds on the bookmarking sites, my blog and the upload sites and post them to Rss Directories:
      RSS Submissions

55 Active RSS Directories to Help Promote Your RSS Feeds!

Blog And RSS Feed Submission: Best RSS Directories Where To Submit Your Blog Feed Part 1

TopRank Best List of RSS Blog Directories to Submit Your Blog and Feed - Online Marketing Blog

      * many resources on that site above that can help.

This would be a good start to get your content indexed before you even submit to any directory and notice since you are just starting out, none of this cost any money, its free advertising.

First off to the OP I'm not at all trying to derail this thread. But Mark J, I would HIGHLY recommend you try the Thirty Day Challenge. I can't post links due to my post count, but Its ThirtyDayChallenge dot Com

It really helped me last year, and the one this year has already made me a considerable amount of money.

I would like to add to the list of things a person can do: write articles. I just started in IM back in June of 2009. I started writing articles a few weeks ago and started making money almost immediately. It is not enough yet to replace a full time income, but it is a starting point like you previously mentioned.

I know several people who make a full time income from writing, it's a service that in demand , just be certain not to price yourself out of the market
