Default Is this not the most overused/annoying IM email subject line?

"Go! Go! Go!... it's Live!!"

I'm all about a good swipe file now, but when new launches come out and I get the above email subject line from several lists I'm on, it makes me want to "Delete, Delete, Delete". haha.

Any other subject lines get on your last nerve?

Don't Buy Product X... and of course, it turns out to be a complete affiliate endorsement with a bonus or different spin

But, by far, the thing that irks me completely is JV affiliates who cannot even rewrite the subject line they were given, and I get 7 emails in 30 minutes with the same identical subject line.

Generally I hate deceptive subject lines and unsubscribed
from a list a few days ago because the subject line alarmed
me about someone who was "killed" only to read the email to
see "killed" used in another sense. I found that disgusting.

while the MM IM niche has seen that line a hundred times, it works very well if you are doing a launch in a niche that has nothing to do with IM where the prospects have never seen it and there is a good buildup to the launch.

I keep getting those too, although my subject line is typically somewhere in the order of 'Thankyou. you have..' and then you have to open it up to see what it is you have done. I have been selected as a lottery millionaire countless number of times. If only!

We all hate it but I would hazard to guess that a lot of marketers use the same lines (or some variation of it) in their own promotions.

My number one peeve is the line "Personal". I get these sometimes from people I comm with and am on their list, so I open them. Sorry, but an autoresponder message to thousands is not personal, dufus

Today, I got a "Personal" from Jason Parker, and my first thought was "Et tu, Jason", but it actually was personal. Thanks Jason

The "Oops, wrong link" is really annoying. Added to the "in case you didn't get my last email(s)". Of course I got your last 12 emails, now stop it already.

But the one that REALLY ticks me off is the "Free bonus for you" type of headline, then you open the email and get something like:
I have arranged for a free copy of a special report since you are a loyal subscriber to my list... Then you click the link and it is a forced opt-in page to get the report. WTF?!?! I am a "loyal subscriber to your list" and you want me to join your list??? I guess I am not special and you really didn't arrange squat for me.

That has earned many unsubscribes and not so friendly return emails.

That brings up another pet peeve (and IMO a relationship breaker with your list): The noreply@imajerk.com mailings. Then these bozos wonder why they have a list in the tens of thousands but it's so unresponsive.

It is a great relationship breaker. That's why it's the e-mail address I use to respond to almost anyone who contacts me who is not on my "in" list or has not paid me money.

Would never use it for a mass mailing out to strangers, though.

This is the one that gets me. I immediately unsubscribe from anyone who uses it.

The best decision I ever made was unsubscribing from about 95% of email lists I was on.

I find "SECRETS" more annoying than nails on a chalkboard.

There are no friggin secrets unless you are 10 years old and just got online.

And IF there are MILLION dollar secrets, we will NOT find them in a silly email.

Here's a link to a thread about good ones:

Amazing subject line that will simply force you to open your email and not get angry when you do!

The only one that I think is really stupid, "Hey BIG, Been a While Since we Last Talked!"

Newsflash dude - we've never talked and my name ain't Big - fix your A/R, LOL. And it's unlikely we've ever passed within 3K miles of each other, so don't pretend to be my best friend.

I know I'm not representative of any particular market, but I'm more apt to open an email that just says, "My Traffic Secrets Offer" than I am some goofy line trying to just get me to open it.

I agree. I delete alot of emails just by looking at the headline

Haha I just got an e-mail from PPC Classroom 3.0....

"Go Go Go...PPC Classroom 3.0 is LIVE!"

I remembered this thread and just had to post this

I'm all about a good swipe file now, but when new launches come out and I get the above email subject line from several lists I'm on, it makes me want to "Delete, Delete, Delete". haha.

Any other subject lines get on your last nerve?

"Hi Dad..." is probably one of my favorites.

That's if it comes from one of my kids. If a marketer did that I would cut them out of my will...

I like headlines that actually tells what I am going to read.

Each time the marketer also send me to a place where I got what was in the headline (or he has written it in the email) he earns credit with me.

Josh Spaulding is a great example.

The most annoying one I see is along the lines of:

"We had a server problem during the launch but....."

[HURRY! ONLY 4 BONUSES LEFT]

...from "big names" who only offered 30 in total to their entire list of subscribers. The previous day.

Huh?

You only sold 26 out of a broadcast to 400,000+ "loyal" subscribers?

How does that work?

Steve

Just to do a 180, one subject line that I did open just from the sheer boldness of it was "Please Get Off My List!", how's that one for reverse psychology?

This marketer was basically tired of paying for people on their list that either didn't buy their products or read their emails, so I obliged.

I don't like panic-inducing subject lines such as, "URGENT DEADLINE," and "We've got to let you go" or gimmicky ones like, "I love you."

Recent subject lines that I've liked include Ben Settle's "Bloodthirsty marketing monsters on the prowl," John Carlton's "5 hidden blunders that murder online businesses," and many of Bottom Line's Daily Health News subject lines, including, "Fat That Speeds Weight Loss."

At last...pre-written emails for Clickbank products that increase conversions.

Two quick thoughts...

1. If you market in the IM arena, there's enough posts in here to validate the need to at minimum "hype-test" your email subject lines.

2. Rather than hijack this other good thread about first names in subject line I remembered a subject line that has been recurring lately in my inbox...

" , rest of subject line here"

In other words, the personalization of my name must have fallen out of his database. It's from one of the most respected marketers... so respected, I still open it even though I'm clearly not worth the keystrokes. LOL. It's usually a blog post update.

2) WSO--> Offline Special Ops -
"A Stroke of Genius"
