I have seen somewhere that you should never have a number in a domain. Well, now I have a great keyword with a number. Do I spell it out or forget it? And why no numbers anyway? Thanks, Jennifer |

If humans might be typing in or repeating your domain with one another, numbers could be bad...is it www. 2widgets.com or www. twowidgets.com In that case, just get both. However, if you are after pure search engine traffic and there will be little or now word of mouth or type in traffic, it does not matter. For example if a site named www. 2widgets.com is very high quality, it will beat out a poor quality site named www.widget .com. People usually put too much emphasis on the domain name. Our retail site does very well with the words Cactus and Canyon in the domain name. Yet, we do not sell cactus or canyons. |

The only time I would use a number is if there was a domain that I really wanted but it was already taken. This is mostly reserved for trying to get a domain name that ranks better in the search engines. So for example say I wanted get-fit-now.com and it wasn't available I could use get-fit-now-1.com. Google won't make a fuss about the 1 being in there (as long as I use dashes to separate the words) and I now have a domain name with keywords I want that can help my ranking. |

Only use one or two numbers max. If you are just trying to rank well, numbers are fine, usually best at the very beginning or very end of the domain name. Dashes/Hyphens are much worse than numbers. I see lots of domains with numbers ranking well in google.

Numbers in domain names always FAIL the phone test.
