Default Multiple WP installations

Hey Guys,

Does anyone know of a software like wpmanagerdx that doesn't require cpanel to work? So I could just enter ftp and database logon details directly into software and it gives me a central place to manage them all wp installations from?

Would be great if such a thing exists.

Thanks

I like Wordpress MU at mu.wordpress.org might work well for you and let you run multiple WP installations like you want. Check it out.

Yeah Wordpress MU is great but unfortunately it doesn't let me span my network across multiple hosts

I'm not so familiar with wpmanagerdx but I have a multiple installs of WP on my server. I set up add-on domains for each new domain name and install and run them independently. I also have a couple of WPMU communities set up which are great for managing as many subdomains as you like all with individual WP-admim panel control but with a central bank of themes and plugins that you can nominate as being for sharing amongst all,. just some or only admin.
I also had previously set up a couple of hives using WP-Hive which allows you to have as many add-on and subdomains working from one single install of WP and sharing all themes and plugins (but selective sharing and not mandatory).
That system worked great until I needed to move a couple of the working WP installs to a seperate server and discovered that unless WP-hive was installed on the new server then it would not work because the database tables all had references to the WP-hive file sharing in them.
It caused me so much headache and time waste (days!) that I decided although it was initially very convenient and fast to use and set up new WP blogs,..in the end the problems outweighed the benefits and I decided never to go with the "hive" (shared install) set up again.

With Fantastico being available these days its just a whole lot easier to set up a fresh WP install for each new blog or site (and yes,..I changed the "wp_" prefix in the configure.php file and tables for each install for security purposes..takes about 15 minutes to do ..set & forget).
Hope that helps you.

Hi Russ,

Those are all good solutions for managing WP blogs on the same server. However, my network spans several different web hosts and not all of them use cpanel.

I think blog matrix pro does what I want but $997 is steep.

Ok,.. I see. In fact I'd never heard of blog matrix pro which is strange seeing as I'm so into WordPress (you learn something new everyday). I'll check it out but I'd say that $997 does sound very steep. You could probably get your own scrip written for that much and then sell it on directly,- although I wonder how big such a market would be?

Cheers,
Russ

WPDirect does it also but that is $147/mo. I guess as soon as someone brings out a budget option the prices will come down. Until then I guess I will manage them individually.

Although not the solution you are looking for I use a combination of iMacros and RoboForm to set up folders for the Sites I manage so I can get in and out my my sites quickly. No worries about different hosts as once it's all set up it's just point and click. I use the iMarcros to dig deep into specific parts of sites and cPanel.
