Would you work for $10 per hour?

Hi Warriors

I'm in the process of taking the first steps into the world of outsourcing my traffic generation.

Now I have some tasks that will take about 8 hours to complete, but if I put the price at $80 will I get replies, as this price is pretty close to what I would consider the minimum wage.

My other concern is that I want someone who is fluent in English, so which sites would you recommend? I have a site in mind, but it would give me a lot more confidence if people here were able to give the same site.

Thanks

Big Mike say it right and you can't argue with a Drunken Greek (or shouldn't), but I will say this. Outsourcing we all know is pretty crucial to ramping up, but not all outsourcers are created equal. You might have to find and fire several before finding the perfect fit, but once you do, your gold. As for pricing do as Big Mike suggest and try here first.

Depending on what type of work is needed there are plenty of people that will do work for that. I think specialty work, like high end graphics, special coding...etc usually demand a lot more.

But with the economy the way for some people they need to have a source of cash.

I have in fact worked for that on a few projects just because my workload was slow during a week or so. I would rather make a sure $80 in a day then sit around (during my lazy times) or try/hope/look for possible projects down the road. (Though If no $80 offer is on the project board that day, I do my own projects or look for other projects to do.)

Right now you can find native english speakers prepared to work for that much less "overseas" outsourcers, infact you can get good work done for considerably less than that.

The problem is hitting gold with the right outsourcer, it can be a bit of a hit and miss affair so once you do find one who takes pride in their work and doesn't need hand holding, up the anti, send them gifts, and be sure to always offer praise and appreciation, everybody's human and a little thanks and the odd $$$ gift here and there for excellent work goes a long way towards loyalty, rapid turnaround and consistent results.

As far as the outsourcing question, I use oDesk.com. Typically I hire out of the Philippines, they are always so nice and do a fine job for about $3-$4/hr and speak English perfectly.

Plus at oDesk.com they have to log-in while they're working and their hours are logged and that's all you pay for. I love it.

      Good luck!

I think it would be better if you let them tell you their price. You might be able to get the work done for a much lower price.

if I were out sourcing and I might for specialist areas in the future I would pay between $15 and $20 rate.

      Why?

Yes there is much cheaper labour out there but , if I am trying to convince some-one of my expertise, I would prefer to have some-one who is an expert in the area doing a rough draft for me.

I read so many articles on-line written by people who clearly know little of the subject area, and so I simply discount their authority in that area and never read anything else from that site.

Some-timespeople make big financial decision's assuming that the article they read was written by an expert in that area.

Maybe that is the reason that google is always trying to clean up .

    $10 an hour... thats cheap!!

I woud not set my alarm clock for it... however that is just me

Having said that $10 an hour is a good rate in other countries and its about what i ay when I outsource, I do feel sometimes you get what you pay for but still none the less cheap is not always bad!

Look outside your country you can hire back link experts from other counties for $2 a hour or less and they know what they are doing.

I have worked for alot less than $10 / hour ....

I would suggest if you are going to outsource your traffic that you get with someone and build a relationship. Do not start out with "Ok I am going to pay you $10 an hour" rather start with a small job on a site that you really do not care much about and see how it goes.

If that goes over well and do another site and the entire time keep communications open and let him/her know that other work is ready for them if they do a good job. Talk with them as you would any of your friends, do not treat them as "workers" but as part of your family.

Building a relationship will net you way better returns in the long run...

If i was out of work and looking i would freelance for $10/Hour, why not, it's better than nothing....

Fortunately my circumstances arn't like that so i charge 'my worth' when freelancing these days.

Although given the economy in the UK at the moment i'd guess you can find someone quite competent to freelance for $10/Hour. There are plenty of graduates looking for work.

As others have mentioned thats a good hourly rate if you want to outsource overseas anyway, regardless of the state of their economy. Personally i think there are a lot of benefits with outsourcing to local people if it's at all feasible.

Thanks a lot folks, that's really answered my key question.

I really didn't want to post the job without knowing if I was over / under charging, so it looks like I'm in the right ball park with my $10 per hour figure.

For graphics I will look in the warriors for hire and WSO, but this for this project I want to go through the learning curve of using a third party freelance site.

It is based on the type of work.

If it includes graphics, general site maintenance, article writing etc, I think $10.00 per hour is pretty good.

If it involves programming, $10..00 is nothing. So based on your work you can post the job.

    In between semesters:
    college kids

offer a part time "intern" job, but yours actually pays something.

college kids are often looking for part time work that fits into the class schedule they are stuck with. What if the classes they want get closed from not enough interest?

then they have to take what ever wierd hours are available.

once that happens, the whole idea of their perfect work schedule got shot to hell.

you by contrast, are offering a PT job that they can do when ever they find the time to do it.

My results? mixed bag: worked fine until they got to the next semester, then they were buried in school work and I had to run another help wanted ad.

Just post a job on Odesk and let them tell you the rate. $10 is very achievable. I'm paying about $3/hr right now in the Philippines.

Most people I know who work outside (part-time, or so), earn roughly $7-$9 per hour.

As such, $10 per is really good.

Of course, that is in my country.

Something interesting: there was once, before the financial crisis, a report of sorts being published that says a banker actually earns LESS than a waiter/cashier at McDonalds. It was eye-opening indeed.

It was because a banker typically works almost 20 hours a day (averaging 120-140 hours per week) and if you divide out the basic salary you would get the result.

Of course, I hasten to add: they did not include the bonuses and commissions of the banker.

I'd just like to point out that most newer (and a lot of older) internet marketers regularly work for less than $10 per hour... They don't see it that way, for whatever reason, but if you're working a whole 8 hour day doing "internet marketing" and you're not making $80 NET per day... then sadly you're not even making $10 bucks an hour.

So, it seems that you could easily find someone to work for that. Problem is, most IMers seem to equate their GROSS with their $/hour and/or have no idea what they actually earn anyway..

July 24th of this year, we were in a depression, had low inflation, high unemployment, and businesses were struggling so, OF COURSE, they RAISED the minimum wage in the U.S.! It is now $7.25! That is over 10% higher than just one year ago! That is the NEW FEDERAL MINIMUM minimum wage. States can make it HIGHER, but NOT lower! NEXT year, connecticut plans to be the HIGHEST with an $8.25 rate! And they say they CREATE jobs!?!?!?

So $10.00 is LOW! I haven't worked for that little in about 29 years! But it is STILL higher than US minimum wage! You could probably find a number of people in the US that would LOVE a little task to make them an extra $80!
