Default Keyword Question

I found a keyword phrase in a niche
So I did it in quotes and only got 3 competition
without quotes its 182,000,000
the .com name is available

its not a phrase that's all whack or anything, not misspelled.

my question, is it necessary to pay attention to the competition number without quotes?

on a side note the phrase gets about 500-600 searches a month, worth setting up a sales page with?

It depends on the keyword.

If you can monetize it, go for it. If you don't think you can generate revenue from the niche, move on to another keyword.

The number of competitors without the quotations is the competition you should be focusing on.

Never judge a book by it's post count :)

not at all...
just worry about the first page.

Though... is that 500 a month "phrase match"?

i could definately monetize it

but i see you said the competition without the quotes is what matters and i think 182mil is a bit too much then.

yeah the 500 a month is how many people type that phrase in.

Be careful with your time on this. Only 500 searches per month is not very much traffic. Let's say you convert at 1 sale every 200 visitors. That's only 2 sales per month.

You better have a KILLER converting landing page or have a high payout.

so is there a minimum searches per month i should go for?

ive been spending hours looking for keywords and its either low competition with low monthly searches or high competition with high monthly searches, can't find the best of both.

I would recommend targeting keywords with a search volume of at least 2,000.

what about competition without quotes?

I know you said pay attention to the comp. number without qoutes, but literally no matter what kind of ridiculous phrase I type into google I get a lot of competition, so are you sure that matters? What would be the point in the whole quote technique if it matters?

Hi Wham,

You ask a very interesting question. I too even with several ranked pages, is not really sure whether we should focus solely on "exact phrase" competitions or worry about the "broad phrase" competitions.

So here's what I think about this issue.

When we search something, an example is work at home jobs, it brings up 263,000,000 returns. When I type it with quotes the total return is 2,760,000.

There's a big difference with the broad result and those who "targets" the exact phrase, this means that those who actively ranks for this phrase is about 2,760,000. What this means is that there are about two million people on the planet who either actively works to get their pages rank or intends to have their pages rank for those keywords. So my assumption is that these people are also doing what you're doing, submitting articles, building backlinks, buying ads, etc.

In your case, there's only three..however I would still check out where those three are positioned within the broad search results. If the three are among the highest in the results then I would assume that you can also rank in there since the other results there most probably are not SEO'd and you could easily beat them out of the position by actually working on getting ranked.

Now, how do you beat those who have optimized their pages for your keywords. Well I could recommend several steps.

1. Check the page rank of the top 2 or 10 if you're not lazy. A page with a rank of 4 to 10 would be hard to knock off.
2. Check the inbound link of the top results. Inbound links not more than 100 would be easy. Those with 1000 above..forget it.
3. Check the authority of the inbound links. Even if the page only has a few links if it comes from pagerank 7 to pagerank 10 sites, that will still be hard to beat.
4. Total number of indexed pages in the Search engines. If the site has 1000s of pages indexed, then forget it.

I would do the above process for the entire top 10 results if I really want to rank for the term. Remember it doesnt mean that because the top 1 result is strong, the others will also be a strong competition. Check the other top results. There are 10 spots there, If you don't get the first and monopolized the remaining 9 spots that is still a winner

This is just my thoughts on this. I hope other warriors can add more on this subject

All the best,

Omar
