Default Where to start??

I would like to know some opinions as to where is the best place to start in IM?

Articles, Affiliates, blogging, product creation, etc....

I know I joined the warrior forum a few years ago, I have since had 2 children and not a lot of extra time whilst they're little.
I have now got some time to get back into trying to make money online and don't quite know where to start. I still have yet to break the $5 mark in IM earnings :P

I am not expecting hundreds overnight, I know I need to actually work to make anything.

I would just like to make a little extra cash to help pay for school fees and kids clothes etc.

Any suggestions will be greatfully received.

That statement alone is a great start!

My best suggestion would be to search this forum first. There are some many great ideas and action steps you can take just by reading the info in here. I'm sure you'll be able to at least get a basic outline of what you'd like to do...then post that up on a thread ask some specific questions.

Best of luck!

Agreed.

Read as much as you can before you start doing. You will save yourself a lot of headache in the future.

There's some good information on the forums but also with the good comes the bad. Don't believe everything you read.

Where do you want to start? What works best is often to pick one method and stick with it for a while. You don't want to jump around from one thing to the next. I know from experience that sort of mentality just does not work. If you work at one method, you'll stand a much better chance. Don't jump at the next thing until you've had success (or failure) in one thing.

Whatever it is you do, you'll probably be using a mixture of things anyway. For example, if you get into blogging, you'll need to create different revenue streams for the blog. One might be AdSense; as your traffic grows, you can begin looking at other advertising services or even selling ads directly. You might also promote products as an affiliate. Or, you could create your own product and use your blog to help drive traffic to it and build relationships with your customers and potential customers.

It's largely a matter of finding what you want to do and then planning around it. If you like blogging, the option above may work for you. If you just like creating products, you might start with a simple website(s) to sell your product(s) and then build relationships with affiliates to get them to do the selling for you, so that you can concentrate on product creation rather than other things, especially if you don't enjoy those other things as much. Be aware, though, that in the beginning, you will very likely have to push for a lot of sales yourself; you'll need to build a good reputation to attract higher quality affiliates.

The bottom line is that there is no right answer. Some people will succeed in blogging, but fail in product creation. For others, it may be vice versa. Some may do better in PPC, while others may excel in article marketing. So, you have to not only find your niche but also find the method that is going to be best for you and your own style and preferences.

Hi Ruthlessnz,

I think when starting in IM the most important thing to me is to understand what your purpose mission and vision are before you begin any kind of marketing online. It is so easy to want to do something real quick and once you start it seems that due to information overload that we start going down rabbit trails too frequently. Without focus it can be easy to go in circles and get nothing done.

I would take the time to decide what your focus will be and find those concepts that compliment your focus that is also inline with what purpose, mission & vision your outlined for your IM business plan. This will help you to stay clear on what's important instead of allowing time robbers into your processes. If the CPA offers compliment your business plan then you may implement those offers likewise if a PPC campaign will compliment your marketing plan then you may implement that concept.

I think that it is always good to include your own product creation, because are able to create products, then you position yourself to create more revenue because your products can be distributed to JV networks and affiliate networks and leverage your efforts. So it may make sense for you implement product creation as well.

Look forward to seeing which way that you go

Good luck...

I hope that might help you achieve your goal

Thank you for your thoughts, I appreciate the insight.

It's hard to see through all the information I have flying around in my head at the moment.

I think I'll sleep on it, come back and check this thread in the morning.

Learn these basics:

- Register a domain
- Get hosting
- Set up a basic web page
- Install and configure WordPress

No matter what you do in IM, you'll almost certainly need to do all of these things... a LOT. As you do these things, you'll be able to do them faster. Then turn to this list:

- Select a niche to target
- Find a product to market in that niche
- Do keyword research for that niche
- Produce a site (see first list) promoting that product and ranking for those keywords

None of this should cost a lot of money, and the second list should put you in a good place to get some money. As you improve the niches you select, the products you market, the keywords you target, and the sites you produce... you'll make more money.

Then you get to the next list. This is when you start having fun with it.

- Drive more traffic to your sites
- Create products of your own
- Explore other kinds of sites

This three-phase process should get you on the right track without having too many missteps along the way.

actually, whatever you do, make sure you're focused on it.

what i mean is this. you can buy a lot of ebooks or read up on a lot of free information on how to succeed in IM, but ultimately you need to choose ONE method to start with first and then focus on that. if you multitask in your early days you'll find yourself quite lost.

once you have mastered that ONE method which you have chosen, or once you think you're ready to add another method, you can do so.

you wanna at least get a bit of dough first before you get it with the cheddar, you know what i'm saying? don't despise humble/small beginnings.

edit:
one more thing. you need to have a schedule too. and some goals too.

My personal opinion is take some time in finding and researching a mentor. I defiantly agree with what others are saying about getting a feel for what style or type of marketing you like, but if you want my honest opinion, a good mentor will teach you and show you how it works and why it works according to their particular expertise. This makes learning a lot easier than trying to read and figure things out for yourself. When I was mentored by Peter Parks aka "Affiliate Punisher" that's when things kicked into high gear for me and many others IM'ers I know. I haven't look back since!

I would monetize my experience, from the very beginning. How about making an WordPress blog, where you describe your results? If it's in the IM niche, AdSense will pay you well.

For instance, today you found a nice site about how to create an OTO (One Time Offer) page. Mention that site on your blog, along with your comments. There are many people in your situation, and they will be grateful for your tips.

Thanks heaps to all who have replied

I've had a sick daughter and a teething son so the last few days I've been too busy to sit online.

But I have been thinking a lot!!
I like the idea of running a blog about my experiences along side whatever I choose to do.
I think the main thing now is to pick a subject or niche I know about or am interested in enough to be able to create a good site.

I will keep reading the forum threads too

Thanks again,
Ruth
