Put up an interesting site and keep adding high quality content to it for, oh, a year or two. Promote it constantly.

Or SEO like mad on an oft-searched keyword.

Either way, you're looking at a lot of work and a lot of time.

If you are looking for visitors that are interested in the content of your website, you will need to optimise your site for search engines.

You can also use PPC, but will be costly if your site is based on a niche that has highly priced keywords.

If you are not bothered about highly targerted traffic.... just buy hits from traffic exchanges.

It really isn't necessary to get 2,000 visitors a day to be sucessful if thats what your after.

Its the quality of your traffic to start with then how you are monitzing your site and or if you have a good sales funnel or not.

You can do media buys or use free traffic methods.

A seriously steady massive flow of traffic takes time. I would not consider 2k visitors each day massive though. Althouhg fairly well.

I developed a site that got 5k unique visitors each day and it took years to get up to that amount of traffic.

Depends on the market entirely.

2,000 UV's a day in a small niche market is a lot harder than in something with tons of demand (like gaming, humour, guitar, etc.)

But at the end of the day the point is moot.

Traffic means nothing.

It's the $$ that equalizes everything.

A better question is... how many conversions would you like to have on a daily basis?

Figure out an acceptable number, and reverse-engineer that "backwards" based on a reasonably achievable conversion rate.

If you want to make 4 sales a day, for example, than you should aim for 200 - 400 visitors a day if a good conversion rate for your offer is 1% - 2%.

Just throwing random numbers arouind for the sake of example, but hopefully you get the picture.

Cheers,

-Chris

P.S. As for the "how"... well, there's many ways, but it either boils down to creating content or buying ads, in a nutshell...

Also it depends a lot on how much your niche wants to buy products. I have a week old website that is getting 1-2k visits per day, but it doesn't make me a penny because the niche doesn't want to pay for things - I'm not trying to force it to them either.

Why 2,000? Where did you get this figure from?

PPC is the fastest way to get traffic, and if you are like me, using organic search, try to setup linkwheel or do extensive article marketing for long tail keywords.

A lot of traffic is nothing, how to get a lot of targeted, ready to buy and high converting traffic, that's the real challenge!

Hi Geopentagon,

Let me outline 1 strategy that you can take, strictly focusing on SEO.

First and foremost, determine your keyword strategy. Do your keyword research (do a search here in the forum if you need help on that) and look for keywords which you think you can be competitive for.

(sidenote: finding keyword terms that you can compete for is a whole other can of worms which I won't get into. The most popular theory - which is mainly garbage repeated over and over - is to look for x amount of searches with less tha x # of competing sites. I'll keep my mini rant out of this and suffice it to say that those numbers are worthless without doing a proper analysis of the top 10 sites that show in google for each keyword phrase you're targeting)

Anyway, I've obviously just skipped a ton here...but let me just stick to the numbers.

Find your keyword terms. For example you have a site on "widgets" and you found the term "blue widgets" gets searched for 50,000 times per month and you think you can be competive for it.

Now...what's that mean to you? What you want to take away from that is the number of clicks you may actually expect based on where you show up in the search rankings. Now, of course, these number vary widely (+/- 10%) based on which study you choose to read or believe, but here's some guidelines:

rank > % of clicks
-------------------
1 > 42 - 51%
2 > 12 - 18%
3 > 8 - 12%
4 > 6 - 8%
5 > 5 - 6%

(there are numerous studies and opinions that you can find with google on the various test results)

Also, some eyetracking studies have shown that the top 3 positions in google serps get 100% visibility (they are considered to be read).

Sooo.....let's make an assumption. Assume that you can get 10% of the clicks on average for each keyword phrase that you target.

That "simply" means that you'll have to find enough keyword phrases which total 20,000 searches per day. Using our assumed 10% average, then you now have your 2,000 visitors to your site.

Again - here comes some over simplification, but let me go on just a little bit more to complete the picture.

Take each of your targeted keyword phrases and build a page on YOUR site specifically tailored and optimized for that phrase. Based on your competitive analysis, backlink it as needed. Use a variety of methods which may include social bookmarking, article marketing, rss feeds, blog properties, web 2.0 properties, etc...all of them backlinking to the specific page on your own site that you're trying to get ranked for one of your keyword phrases in your target list.

Do this for every single keyword that you're targeting.

Work at it constantly and consistently.

You'll get your 2,000 visitors

Now, this may seem like a lot of work, but let's take a moment to analyze your potential gain:

Let's "pretend" that your site is selling some affiliate product that makes you $20 per sale. Let's also assume that 1% of your site visitors convert. Based on that, you're getting 20 sales per day for a total of $400 per day. (ok, so in reality not 100% of your site visitors will funnel down to your primary call to action, but let's leave that for another conversation )

Hope that helps!

Steve

Have a great day!

I think you better follow the stupid and dump formula I outlined in my signature, that's the fastest way to start despite what other "expert" might think.

All figures are relative, Google search count, competition count and absolutely everything is relative! However, for beginners, you don't need to be confused by those figures, just follow the outlined steps and learn from there!

Everyone experience might be different, if you experience differently, feel free to share! However, there must be a point to start.

There are 2 ways to do competitive research:

1. Look at the SERP from Google, see how many site competing with you!
2. Look at the top 10 websites, analyst every site's details, including on page and off page factor, you will have an idea how long it takes to rank, and how many links you need.

The first method is well known between Article marketer who use long tail keywords, this method is not for website with highly competitive keywords!

For long tail keywords research, it would not be "cost effective" to go through each and every competitive analysis, we prefer to use method 1.

However, when it comes to ranking your money site's keyword, you must perform top 10 analysis, that's where the real competition data comes in - method 2.

Just don't get confused

Avoid link wheels - Google is onto this now and will remove pages using them from its index in time.

Woohoo! Well, I'm off to build linkwheels to all of my competitors' sites now, thanks for the heads up! Why bother building links to my own site when I can just get my competition banned by something they have absolutely no control over?

...

Seriously though, you may want to think these things through before you post them. These kinds of posts just lead to newbies losing sleep over what Google is going to penalize them for next.

Want a real easy guideline to figure out if Google is going to penalize or ban your site for something?

Ask yourself this question: "Am I the only one with any control over this particular SEO factor?"

If the answer is no, if it is something that your competitors could use against you, your rankings will never be hurt by it.

The only exception to this rule is SQL injections / hacks that redirect your domain or plant malware on it, and Google will notify you of this through Webmaster Tools 99% of the time.
