Is It Time To Build A List?

Ok, so I've recently created a blog about making money online and have been driving a decent amount of traffic to it through article marketing. But there is something that is just keeps on nagging at me. It's whether or not I should go ahead and try to build a list by gaining the interest of visitors who want to learn more about making money online but don't want to spend any money.

So, here are my questions for you guys. Is it worth it to start building a list based on the content of my blog? Is it possible to implement an opt-in form into a blogger blog? And which service would best suit me? Any input at all is greatly appreciated, and the link to my blog is below this paragraph. Thanks again.

    Pretty nice blog there.

Yes you can add your optin form to your blog, wont be too difficult with all the info on the web available.

and YES you should start building your list - no questions about that. It will be your own money making and traffic generation tool in 1

    I'd actually recommend www.getresponse.com

This is the first time I have recommended GR over aweber (I just don't feel their new fees are justified)

Nice looking blog, but you need to focus.

The front page makes reference to at least 6 different ways to 'make money'.

      Stick to one...any one...

Thanks for the input guys. And Steve, I'm not sure how I can put a greater emphasis on focus without limiting myself.

Also, I know that a very common way of getting subscribers is to offer a free download of a "make money online" ebook. But is it possible to set a series of emails with getresponse? So instead of offering them a free download, I would be offering them a 3 part series or something similar to this idea.

I have one more question after looking over the website. Is there a cap to the number of subscribers your list can contain? I saw this in aweber's pricing models but I didn't for getrespons'e.

            Hi There:

First of all getresponse is cheaper than aweber and does about the same thing, just pays a bit less in affiliate commissions (which you may or may not care about). At any rate, you really need to build your email list(s).

You don't need to build just one list, with an autoresponder like getresponse or aweber (getresponse is free if you don't mind the ads), you can have several. And the whole point of an autoresponder is that once someone signs up for your e-course/ezine/email-list-with-free-gift, they will automatically get a series of emails that you set up in advance.

What's really cool about this is that you can have several e-courses/ebooks depending on where that traffic came from. And several targeted lists where you can make targeted offers. It's really important to always try to focus on a major subject for each email list...you'll make more sales that way.

Say you wrote an article about SEO and you offered an SEO course to people who respond to that article. They would go to a page on your site (I'm not sure how you do this with blogs, I mostly have web sites plus blogs which gives me the ability to put up squeeze pages about anything I want). Hopefully someone on this thread will know how to do blog squeeze pages. So you could have several or many squeeze pages for any topic you can think of with as many e-courses as you want.

I would not put links to all of these squeeze pages up on your blog though, unless you put each squeeze page link on a relevant page, i.e. info about SEO/blogging/making money online, etc.

One last but important tip, when you send out emails to your lists, you can just put a link in there to your latest relevant blog post, you don't really have to write very much.

Your autoresponder service will keep track of your lists and store your subscribers names and emails, although you should back them up to your computer regularly.

            Regards, Teddi

Unless you are offering a free ebook or software in return, I think it would be difficult to build a list..

Would this be possible to do this through getresponse? I'm all for writing an ebook if that's what it takes but if I'm going to have to pay for getresponse, hosting, and a domain I'll have to hold off for a month or two.

Yes. Do it from day 1. Perhaps you can use one of those scripts where theres a dropover popup, or put the optin on the sidebar. Look at how blogs like shoemoney, problogger and johnchow does it.

Alright well thanks for the responses guys. I think I'll go ahead and give this a shot because I've just found that you can in fact add attachments to your emails using getresponse.

My plan is to create a blog post specifically for gaining subscribers. I will then offer a free ebook followed by some intense article marketing.

That sounds like a good way to get permanent hold of the traffic you are already getting. Well, semi-permanent hold anyway. It would be good if you could offer them something unique, at least the appearance of being unique. Most tiems, it is pretty muich the same story, just told in a way that people understand.

Building a list never hurts, just offer something that they want and offer good content and then do your promotions naturally and not over aggressively.

Yes you can add an opt in to your blog. I suggest doing this ASAP and start building your list. You may want to look at getting an Autoresponder for your subscribers. I suggest using Get Response.

    Your Blog looks fantastic.

    All the best

Your blog post from Sept 15th - wow, that's a one sick Jetta!

    Sorry for the offtopic

Yes, you should build a list off of your blog. I would recommend AWEBER for that.

You're getting some solid advice here. I would add not to limit yourself to just getting list members from an opt-in on your blog homepage and individual post pages. Consider setting up a one-page site on a domain you register that exists solely to capture opt-ins. It doesn't have to cost you to register the domain. 1and1.com will give you a .biz domain for free (1st year). All you'd need is a host, which you can find, if you shop around, for $5/month.

Use article marketing to drive traffic to that squeeze page, where you offer your ecourse or ebook for free in exchange for them opting in to your list. Again, costs you nothing.

I would write one article that sends traffic to that page for every 2 or 3 I write sending people to your blog. Then you'll have two funnels buiilding your list instead of just one. The advantage is that the conversion rate should be much higher from the squeeze page than from your blog, since there won't be any competing "noise" (your blog posts) to distract your visitors. The squeeze page will give them just 2 options: sign up or leave.

    Good luck,
    John

What about this? Make a blog post for opt-ins, make an opt-in form somewhere on the side bar, and then buy a .com domain and create a squeeze page using weebly.

John gave out some great advice there That's pretty much what I do as well...

The first signature in my link - this is the 1 page site that I promote with Articles... So I gett all the Opt-Ins for free. I also get the opt-ins (which are added to the SAME list) using my blog: Extra Paycheck Blog

As you see, it costs me 8$/year for the domain name, $240/year for Aweber account, and $100/year for the hosting - however I host many other websites on the same account, so if you split it equally, you can say that hosting for THIS site is only 10$/year... the same goes for Aweber - I use it for several campaigns, so this exact campaign only costs like $20/year.

So, I spend about $40/year on this campaign. I have already made several thousands of dolars from this campaign alone. Was it (is it) worth building this list? Heck yeah! And I will do it over and over and over again!

To make the long story short - DO IT!
