Does anyone know of a good grammar checker program/software? It doesn't have to be perfect, but if it catches a few major grammar errors, that would be great.
I know Microsoft's Word used to have one. I've also tried a plug in for Open Office, but it didn't seem to do anything. Thanks in advance... |

Kurt,
Office Word 2007 has one. When it picks up an 'error' (more false positives than an antivirus programme) it gives you the option of ignoring it once or always, or applying the correction. It's not very smart and often tries to correct what it calls 'fragments' - standalone phrases or bits of a sentence. Still, if you know your grammar, it's useful for picking up those "late at night" errors your weary brain might not have registered. The best way to use it is to do a spell check first. Martin |

Are you looking for something like Wombat 5.0? I think Paul Myers is an affiliate for that. Maybe he can comp you a copy.
![]() For the rest of us that ain't got real good grammer we just make it part of our online personality. The trouble I've had with those programs like the one MS uses for Word is that they tend not to speak in the same voice as the rest of the passage. Sort of like listening to a P Diddy song and then something from Rogers and Hammerstein suddenly breaks in. If you do find one, post it here. It would be fun to run a bunch of those threads that make no sense through it so I could see what the OPs were talking about from the get-go. KJ |

You may want to check out the free AbiWord. I have not personally used it, but I've been studying the technology behind it's grammar checker, which is pretty impressive, imho.
