Camtasia- Is there anything else?

Hi Forum,

I can afford Camtasia, but i refuse to pay stupid money for something which I will only use probably once or twice, is there anything that does the same sort of thing (take a running screen shot and voice over).

Thanks.

    gange10,
Here is how you can do it:
    Audio:

Download Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder

    Video:
ScreenToaster - Online screen recorder. Capture screencasts instantly.

    This should help

Depends really on what you plan on making, if its a product you plan to pass off as quality and charge a fee for I would recommend you scrape up the cash for camtasia or other quality video application. If not just go with the free ones listed above.

Also keep in mind there is a small learning curve for each application, you get camtasia now and learn it for the future. You get a cheap program, it may hold you over for now, but at some point you will likely want to upgrade anyway, now you have to learn some new software all over again.

Jing is Camtasia's little brother (same company), it's free, and it's available for Mac or PC. There are two potential downsides to Jing, depending on what you want to do with your videos. Each video you create with Jing is limited to 5 minutes. The resulting videos are .swf files, which you can't upload to YouTube, if that's your intent.

For $14.95 you can upgrade to Jing Pro, which allows you to create .mp4 files, which you CAN upload to YouTube. With Pro, you're still limited to 5 minutes. Camtasia, of course, removes the time limit, plus you can edit and do some other cool things (zoom in, add effects, etc) The Mac version of Camtasia is still pretty new, and not worth the price yet (IMHO).
