What's the importance of pinging my blog posts? Is there any even?H

Hi guys, I was wondering what 's the exact importance of pinging my blog posts? I mean, will it help with traffic and if so, how exactly do I do this?

I've just started using pingler.com and the only traffic it increases are the search engine bots. Typically, I get about 10 sites a day checking out my site after I ping, but it doesn't seem to actually bring new live visitors. Wordpress already automatically pings the big search engines, so I don't ping any established blogs, but if I do a linkback from a Web 2.0 property, I run pingler on that site so that the SEs can find the link. I don't know if it really helps or not, so I too am interested in what other people think about pinging.
