Absolute newbie's game plan - would love some advice!

Hello everyone. I have been lurking for a short time on the Warrior forum and trying to absorb as much as I can about affiliate marketing. I feel like I am now at the point where I know enough to get started with the basics, but the whole world of IM is completely new to me.

I have put together a to do list for my first ever affiliate campaign, and I am pretty excited (there's nothing like newbie excitement!) but I have a feeling that there are probably a lot more things involved in the process than what I have already listed (this is going to take me FOREVER!). If anyone would care to offer any advice on anything else I should add to the list (or remove), or add to a subsection of the list, it would be a MASSIVE help. Thank you guys!



MY FIRST AFFILIATE CAMPAIGN TO DO LIST
1. Search top 1000 searches
2. Look for corresponding Clickbank product (more than 50 grav., good history, good affiliate support)
3. Study affiliate pages for that product
4. Gather information from forums about the product
5. Choose keywords for product
6. Make banner
7. Make headline
8. Create bullet points
9. Create Sales page
10. Create Thank You page
11. Create opt-in form and add to Thank You page
12. Write 10 emails to use as newsletters
13. Buy domain
14. Sign up for Aweber, input 10 emails
15. Test website
16. Upload website
17. Write 3 articles about product
18. Pay to have articles edited and made unique and have them uploaded to many sites
19. Create Yahoo! Answers campaign
20. Twitter strategies
21. PPC?

    Looks pretty solid to me. The only one I don't get is the first one. What do you mean by "top 1000 searches"? Where?

    And perhaps it would be better to look for clickbank products in a niche you know something about, so that you won't have much difficulty writing about it. Then look for the best products in that niche, do your keyword reasearch etc.

      Maybe you are taking on too much at once, especially for your first time.
      You may burn yourself out. The below is exactly how i started out and within 1 month i was making around 1 sale per day.

      Just first try and promote a product that your familiar with. Something you know a little bit of information about. Ensure the sales page your promoting has email capture which will increase your conversions.

      Register a domain that is relevant to your product and redirect the domain to your affiliate address. You can have an iframe redirect or php redirect, search for these on google.

      Write 5 articles a day and submit to ezine articles. Read up on article writing first so you dont waste your time. Once you start earning commissions, save it in the bank and then outsource graphic design. Target buying traffic, desperate traffic.

      If you try and do everything yourself it may look of poor quality. After all if your new to this game then you cannot possibly have all the skills.

      TIP: Read a few books by Seth Godin On Internet Marketing, absorb and implement. Never stop learning, but earn while you learn..

      Thats what i did anyway, but its different for everyone i suppose.

        Here's my 02 cents

        1. Search top 1000 searches - Sounds good

        4. Gather information from forums about the product
        5. Choose keywords for product - Search Keywords
        6. Make banner - Outsource
        7. Make headline - SWIPE a headline
        8. Create bullet points - SWIPE the bullet points
        9. Create Sales page - Outsource
        10. Create Thank You page -Outsource
        11. Create opt-in form and add to Thank You page - Yes - using Aweber
        12. Write 10 emails to use as newsletters
        13. Buy domain - Yes
        14. Sign up for Aweber, input 10 emails - see above
        15. Test website - gotta upload it first
        16. Upload website - see above
        17. Write 3 articles about product - Outsource 10 articles minimum
        18. Pay to have articles edited and made unique and have them uploaded to many sites - OK
        19. Create Yahoo! Answers campaign - Yes
        20. Twitter strategies- Yes
        21. PPC? - Heavy Danger Unless you have your conversions and testing nailed down perfectly

        It seems like a sound plan..don't get too bogged down. Focus on the things you are good at and enjoy then outsource the rest.

          Nice one Todd, this saying sticks in my mind. Alot of people try to complete everything on their own but it ends up been low quality. Yes it costs to outsource but the benefits far out weigh the cost..

    Here are some things to consider:

    Don't limit yourself to clickbank for products.

    Add a free report or something to give reason for your subscribers to sign up.

    Actually purchase the product so you know what you are promoting. If you don't like it, you can always return it.

    Research the product creator as best you can to make sure this is someones product you want to really be promoting.

    Have a list of associated products that will compliment your niche.

    You will find more things to add to that list as you move along.

    Every thing that you have read is great advice and definitely a good plan of attack. I just wanted to mention 1 point that was not mentioned as it was my doom at not getting the results that I was told about. FOCUS!!
    Work very hard at doing 1 step at a time and do it to completion!
    Make it a point to not get sidetracked with other ideas> My downfall in the beginning
    Information Overload reared its ugly head and led me away from my primary goals.
    Since you are going after Affiliate marketing may I suggest you take a look at this WSO. Most everyone here knows Rob and this will help keep you on track.I bought it and got a tremendous amount from it and for only $7 bucks.It was worth it!

      I see that you have Twitter, PPC and article marketing all on your list.
      My advice is to take ONE method and TOTALLY focus on that in the beginning. Otherwise there is a good chance you'll spread yourself too thin.

      Going in too many directions is one of the biggest obstacles to success for many marketers (not just newbies). Try to perfect one method before taking on another...

    Just one thing to say my friend. Your plan is solid, but make sure you take one step at a time, get it right then move to the next step.

    You have your list, so I assume you are still thinking about doing it. Stop thinking about it and take your 1st step. Focus, Action, Get it Right, Focus, Action, Get it Right, ...

    avenuegirl: making up a free report definitely seems like a great idea. But how long should these reports typically be?

    Todd Lamb: Thanks for the point by point. One question: "Swiping": does this mean just copying it and rewording it for use on my own page?

    cragar, Matthew, Ken: Seems like I was set to take on too much at once. I will try to find the will power to hone my skills in one area.
