What would it cost to start up with IM?

Ok Warriors...I have been asked this question time and again...what will it cost me to start up a business of Internet Marketing...

I usually answer with, "Well what do you know about IM?", are you prepared to lose your shirt if you dont know what you are doing?

So I thought lets see what other would say to this question, if someone out of the blue asked you that question how would you respond...

My answer is this about $5,000, to do it right!

(edit) and Please qualify your remarks...if you think its $100 then explain why, if you think its $5000 then explain why...this is definitely going to help out the noobs

My reason for the $5000 remark

$10 for hosting
$10 for a new domain name
if your going to just go with affiliate marketing then you need advertising dollars...( yes I know all about bum marketing, its pointless to do that and wait 1 year for your articles to finally get picked up and read)

you need and adwords, adbrite, miva, yahoo publisher, msn ads accounts

so for that you need an additional $4980...Why?

Well most PPC companies will have you prepay into an account...once your account is depleted they will charge your CC again and again and again until you either stop the campaign or up your daily limit.

Adwords will charge you at the end of the month, but remember the products you offer are only gonna pay you at the end of the month or whatever your threshold is...so you will be spending before making money...hope that clears some things up

If not send me an extra $5,000 and..

haha but pretty much the cost of a domain name, hosting, auto responder, maybe a graphics designer and a copywriter.

      Cost? Time.

One can start with nothing and make some decent money, then re-invest so as to buy domain names, hosting etc.

"Do it right" is objective, as there are many ways to earn, but totally dependent on the individual. Whats right to me may not be right for you.

$xxxx amount of money does not guarantee anything if you don't devote the time and energy into your business.

        1. Hosting? No out of pocket. eBay has deals all day for first month free.
        b. Don't really need hosting. I know a service where you can easily set up a site and be making money off of it before you have to pay and it's not hosting at all.

        2. Domain? No problem. A newbie can sign up for the Warrior forum and have money for a domain name within 10 minutes of signing up by posting in his sig. I'll write 10 articles for 10 dollars.
        b. Don't really need a domain name. See number 1. b. above.

        3. Video recorder? I hate videos, don't make them don't need them. I hate videos.

        4. PDF/Word Editor? OpenOffice.

        5. Auto Responder? See 1. b. above. It's better than a autoresponder when it comes to newbies.
        b. MailChimp. Free for your first 500 list members and top of the line AutoResponder.

        6. C****y online marketing results? Hey it pays the bills?

    My answer would be, "Nothing."

Then I pause and add, "Out of pocket."

There is no reason anyone with enough smarts to sign on to the Warrior Forum and post a comment can't earn enough money to get started. That is why I wrote "How To Pull Money Out Of Thin Air," which gives a few ways to start with none of your own money and spend what you pull out of thin air on your education and other IM needs.

Let me give just one example. Way back when WSO posting was free there was a WSO that I just HAD to have and I didn't have the money for it. I figured I would offer a product of mine that I hadn't even created yet. So within a few hours I created my product and ran my own WSO. Well, within minutes I got enough orders to get the WSO I wanted.

Now the kicker is, I can't even remember what WSO I bought But that original product I created to buy it has made me some nice pocket change over the past few years.

Only time and effort - which you can replace in part by $$

If you know your product and market well, then all you need is to get a domain and hosting. You may have to hire a web designer if you can't design your own site. The bottom line is, with your first few orders, or may be just one, you get your investment back.

    Hi guys

im often advising people on how to make money online and the majority of them do it on $100 but if you dont know what you are doing it can cost you an absolute fortune. Imagine all those times when you wasted your money on a software program that was a load of rubbish.

If you took off all the crap you bought i bet you could do it on $100????

    kind regards

All good points, but we are assuming that the person getting into the business already has a knowledge of the things we already know of.

So lets rephrase the question, (assuming I am a total noob and know about as much as how to turn on my computer and enter in a url, and know some html), "I want to make an extra $5000 a month, what do I do and how much will it cost me?

In other words, where would a total noob start?, what would they promote/ sell?, and how much would it cost them to do it?

Again the answer is "Nothing out of pocket." The body of posts above answer all the qustions in your last post too. Of course they would need to be a Warrior for a couple of days first.

Again all good, but the topic was for an Internet Marketing business, I can go collect cans at concerts for $.05 a piece and do OK...but we're talking Internet Marketing, something that someone will do at their computer...

Although in fact what George has described in his famous post is exactly how I got started during the Internet Boom of the late 90's. I would go around to businesses and offer to build them a website and host it for them for a fee...of course I charged them a flat rate to build it and then a monthly to host it on my reseller account.

But what we're talking about here is simple, we want to start an online business doing something whether that be CPA, affiliate, clickbank, amazon, ebay, direct sales, or whatever.

WOW. This is the first time ever someone said this is not Internet Marketing. (The first thing you asked for before the rules of this Thread started changing.)

OK, Can we use the Phone from home? eMail the businesses from home? Or is selling to offline people strictly off limits here. And remember everyone is offline. No one except Warriors actually live online. PPC targeted to brick and mortar or?

Collecting cans at a concert has nothing to do with Internet Marketing. Selling Internet services to brick and mortar businesses has everything to to with Internet Marketing.

George Wright P.S. EDIT, on second thought I thought you wanted answers to your OP based on any and all ways. Sorry I missed the point. I think I "get it" now. GW

    $5,000 a month?

This is just my experience, take it for what you will.

    $100

    1. Find your niche, either buy a plr product or make your own. Buying a plr product make sure it is good, if you need to tidy it up a bit. Maybe $20

    2. higher a designer, if needed higher a copywriter too, make your website. Around $50, if you higher a copywriter maybe $150

    3. Domain name, and hosting Look for coupons, all together about $10

    4. Autoresponder. Aweber is 1$ for the first month $1

    5. build traffic using blogs, ezine, and things, build up that list! Make a squeeze page, you will be seeing profits quickly.

So your looking at somewhere around 80$ to $180 or so, not bad right?

    Hi
It could cost you nothing if you got hold of the right information at the very beginning. The reason most people spend a lot of money is because they keep buying useless information in the hope of finally finding the magic formula.

Look for free information first before you buy anything. That way you will be pointed in the right direction. If and when you do start buying information, start small.Buy things that are easy to understand, afffordable and that do not promise you will make money overnight. Avoid the hype.

You will not be able to avoid spending money on domain names and hosting since this will be the base of a successful business. Use good judgement and you will not lose your shirt.
