I've done a little article marketing to drive readers to presell landing pages in my niche. With this method, I've done pretty well in converting people. But what I've noticed is that many of my articles die off in about a day or two, which often keeps me writing and writing. This has become tiresome, so I've thought about creating a blog for writing my articles. While I'm sure this won't bring me any traffic immediately, I was wondering if it would be better for the long-term. What are your thoughts?

If you're looking long term then yes a blog would be better, but you'll still have to get backlinks.

A blog is definitely better for the long term. But don't expect much traffic anytime soon..... be sure to backlink that blog as much as you can each day. That will lead to traffic.

I concur. A blog is definitely better for the long term, and you OWN it (I'm assuming self-hosted blogs here.) With articles it's just out there in cyberspace and things can happen and you're at the mercy of others, your articles can get deleted, etc - you get the idea.

I agree. Do both. There is no one way to get traffic and drive sales. The best way is to do everything.
Create a blog and have articles driving traffic to your blog. If you are getting tired of writing the articles, there are some pretty cheap outsourcing options you can use. Get them written for a few bucks, toss them into JetSpinner, and submit away. |

Posting articles on your blog and getting back links to them will improve your page rank faster than publishing articles, but you may not get as much traffic initially until you build a following.
Mix the 2 up: post an article on your blog and then promote it with an article in an article directory, that way you're doing both AND getting a backlink

You have to make backlinking an ongoing effort. In the end it is well worth it.

Good backlinks, mind you...
It's not unusual to 'lose' 300 backlinks overnight very time Google shakes these days |

Most assuredly both... And consider outsourcing some linkwheels back to your blog and also to your existing articles. It's common knowledge (these days) that Google loves wordpress, so go with the flow.

Blogging all the way forget the article stuff. Blogging is where the real money is at.. that is unless you want to be branded as an article marketer and then you definitely need to be talking about how your article brings in 20k visitors per month and gets a 60% CTR. Also with blogs you get freedom to splatter adsense and other monetization methods throughout your content and if done right you get profits. With article directories you get a tedious resource box that possibly 80% of the internet doesn't even know exists along with monetization splattered throughout that you don't profit from.

Expanding on what sarpras said write articles on your own blog and then contribute articles to other blogs instead of article directories.

Actually, do both article marketing AND blogging.
I remembered there was a lengthy discussion on whether to post your article on your site first or on article directories. If I recall correctly, the verdict was that it doesn't matter. However, majority thinks that placing your article on your site first before an article directory is better. IMO, spin those articles and place them everywhere. Ultimately, you simply want traffic. Don't forget SEO! |

Interpreneur made a very good point: monetisation.
Before you can answer your question - which one to do, article marketing or blog marketing - you need to decide what your ideal outcome is. There are merits to both blog and article marketing, but one will be a better choice depending on your goals. If you want your site to become an authority site and/or make a little money with textlinks and ads, then the articles need to be posted on your site. Consider rehashing the same articles and adding them to article directories to gain some links and page rank. PS And yes, go with WordPress! |

I think updating and optimizing of your blog on and on is very important. With a good quality, then you can purchase some traffic to make it popular.Articles sometimes can't make any sense.
