I think most new marketers are looking for get rich quick schemes.
Then they spend a ton of money and time on crap before realizing such a thing doesn't exist. |

I think the first thing new Internet marketers should look for is a great traffic source in which they can interact with. Then once they find it they should spend time learning the needs of the individuals who are part of that traffic source. After that they'll know what products they should be selling and will already have a source of traffic in which to sell it.

I work with a lot of beginners. Most of them don't understand the issue of traffic at first. In the beginning they all think it is a "build it and they will come" process.
....then reality sets in.

Yes, I concur with the above posts. Most newbies go through various stages, and usually stage no. 1 is the part where they think they can "push a button" and start the money flowing - no doubt due to countless talented copywriters that keep pushing that angle till some people actually start believing in it!

Most marketers are looking for traffic.
Wise marketers are looking for targeted traffic. 1000 visitors per day aren't worth anything if they don't buy from you.

I am new marketer too, and new to this forum too, i was surrprized by the sum of data that you can find here. For me targeted traffic is the point, we always develope more ways to get the right impact out from our continues effort to reach the targeted consumer.I think by organizing your plan you can get the suffecient traffic without losing much time, as i always do it my self. Traffic is definitely key but I think before the traffic, most newbies are looking for an easy to follow to-do list. I know when I started I couldn't figure out the order in which to do things--build the website or join a forum? Article market or social networking? It felt like I always had six plates up in the air and I remember being really confused. Luckily, after a few years I only have about three plates up in the air at any given moment but hey, I consider that progress!

JMB - thanks for that link.
I second that: there's a wealth of information in that thread - and it's been packaged into a free e-book you can download (a link to every traffic getting thread in this forum). Pure gold - go get it! |

It's true, without traffic you are dead in the sea of websites.
There are 2 types of traffic, targeted and organic (well at least that's the way I see it) Organic is traffic that's not really looking for what you have but are on your site for some reason or another. That can be from you sending traffic from a paid site that sends large amounts of traffic to your site. That traffic is useless for getting sales, but can become very handy in getting your Alexa rank up (Alexa the Web Information Company). The lower your Alexa rank the better your site appears to some search engines. Targeted traffic is people that are looking for what you have. Those are the people you want. How to get those has always been the tricky question. But there are ways and tricks and tips to getting massive amounts of Targeted traffic. Another way to get traffic is PPC but that can cost a ton of money. Also you can post on blogs that will help with back links and get you some traffic. Getting a lot of backlinks can get you higher rankings in search engines also. So really it depends on what type of traffic you need and how much you are willing to pay for it. I hope this has helped in some way ![]() Sincerely, Randy Thomas |

Absolutely, they don't even know why they need a list apart from having the importance stressed upon them that they need one now and when they finally get their own list, they don't know what to do with it. I think outlining the fundamentals from the grass roots up starting with learning how to pick a profitable niche, selecting relevant keywords, domain name, hosting, web site building, FTP, payment processing, promotion, list creation, business continuity, etc. If you start with the basics, it will take on a natural progression of its own as you go step by step throughout the entire process from beginning to end. You'll find that you'll address common issues newbies face when you do so. I remember being stumped FTP'ing my first site to the web and creating clickable links. | |

as a newb to internet marketing. I want a step by step guide on how to do it all. THere is a lot of information and it is so overwhelming.
My background as an article writer puts me at an advantage because I know about SEO and keywords and all that. But still there is so much. Taking the leap from article writing to marketing I could still use a step by step guide. I must say though the XFactor really hit the nail on the head with his guide. Although I have yet to find a Dummies guide to building a website. which is what I really need. |
