Default Can't cload Amazon links is this hurting my rankings?

On some of my sites I like to put in Amazon products with their widgets in my footers or other places. I can not find out how to cloak them and Amazon won't says it will mess up their tracking.

I know Google does not like aff links, I am thinking about dumping these widgets because of this.

Am I wrong in thinking Google will penalize me for uncloaked aff links?

Anyone have more info on this?

It's not official per Matt Cutts as far as I know but ask anyone who is big time and they will tell you that.. I have heard several super affiliates say that on webmaster radio...As well as others who are big names.

Affiliate marketers are the bane of Google's existence.

They don't want the top rankings of their serps filled with pages of people trying to sell things... Makes for a bad 'user experience'...

Cloaked links or not if you have a 'thin affiliate site' and get a human review your going down into page 60+ page Hell...

Actually, affiliate marketers are a lifeblood of Google. Top affiliates spend 6 figures per day on Adwords advertising.

More accurately, Google probably looks down upon thin affiliates, that is people who run websites that offer nothing of value to the user.

I don't believe that "Google doesn't like affiliate links" - but even if it were true, cloaking the links would not trick Google

I'm not sure on the affiliate link thing, that would be surprising, but I do understand on the widget. While I have not done much with Amazon recently, do they not allow you a test link? If they do, then why not download a picture of what you're selling, then cloak the text link.

Reserved for something coming soon.

Hey, I am just repeating what I have heard, from some VERY big names... Sure Google makes money from us, IF we use Adwords or Adsense for our sites. I seriously doubt they want their organic toprankings choked full of people trying to sell things...

I have never heard of Google being able to detect a cloaked link...

I am sure it's coming.

No argument there for sure...

Right, I am referring to widgets.

Good idea though.
