Blogger being owned by Google, does it mean Blogger gets indexed on Google faster than Wordpress?

I say you must make it a self hosted wordpress. If you use blogger or wordpress.com or typepad or any other blog services, I ask only one qn: Whats the security for your content? Amit Agarwal of Labnol.org is a famous blogger from India. He started blogging in blogger and after 2 years or so, one day he got banned in google. Later he survived by contacting Google (as his was an authority blog) and switched from blogger to self hosted account. |

For long term and security purposes, I suggest self hosted wordpress is the way to go. Quote:

It really does depend on what you are trying to accomplish...which you didn't mention (what is the purpose of your blog?), but if it's versatility you are after, WordPress is hard to beat. Google does a nice job of making it easy to get up and running with Blogger, but WordPress isn't hard to launch either, and once you start using it a little you soon discover all kinds of new ways to use it you might never have imagined. The list of available plugins, many of which are free, seems endless. Best of luck either way you go, Neil |

As TruWebPro said - it does depend on what you want to do with your blog, because all the hosted sites have restrictions of one kind or another. Here's a review of Blogger, WordPress.com and WordPress.org: http://www.wealthydragon.com/blog/20...-or-wordpress/ Cheers, Martin. |

I use both WP and Blogger. But my Blogger posts gets high rankings in Google, due to the fact that Google owns Blogger. WP has more features, and is easier to alter and use, in my opinion.

My suggestion is a non-hosted wordpress blog, so you can use all the plugins and get maximum flexiblity on your own server. Then also start a blogger blog and point the odd link to your wordpress blog - that will certainly help with faster indexing of new content.

Self hosted Wordpress all day, more flexibility personally. But don't forget about blogger because as you said it is owned by Google, so you could do some linking from one blog to the other

I also use both of them. My Blogger is also link to my WP blog. So, it can be easily get rank from Google. Also, like others say, it always depend on what is the purpose of your blog, and your budget. If you still have low budget, or even zero, use Blogger. But, if you can afford paid hosting, use WP, since it have very huge plugin you can customize. -Malik |

HI If you start out with a $0 budget then wordpress.com would be my choice. But as soon as you make $8 for a domain and $10 for hosting please get self hosted wordpress. Why adding backlinks etc to a site you don't really own?! Yours sincerely Angelina |

I use Wordpress Direct. It takes a WP blog and adds lots of features, such as stats and interface with Market Samurai. Their paid subscription also has automatic posting features (which I frankly have never used). The paid subscription actually is pricey but there is a free version available to people who sign up through the Thirty Day Challenge.

You own your own site in exactly the same way whether you're self-hosting Wordpress on it or self-hosting Blogger on it, surely? You wouldn't be comparing self-hosted Wordpress with Blogger hosted at Blogspot here, would you?! (That wouldn't be much of a comparison, would it?!) | |

Wordpress, self hosted if possible. More flexible and more secure. But you must keep it up to date. I've had two Wordpress sites of mine hacked, and one of them lost rankings for a while from Google (who alerted me to the fact that my blog had been hacked!) If you're building a business, you cannot rely on a service such as Blogger where they can pull the plug at any time for any reason they want. This of course is my opinion. That said, I do have one Blogger blog, although it is self-hosted. I may move that to Wordpress one day. |

I use self-hosted wordpress blogs, but I also have a blogger one and a Wordpress.com one that I post on occasionally. But my main blogging and content and everything else is on my own self-hosted blogs. the others are just supplements and give a bit of link juice to my main blog. About cost... Hostgator charges less than 10 bucks a month for unlimited subdomains! And even less if you really just want one domain. And there are even cheaper ones out there... The profit potential is so much better. And yes, you can always lose the blogger blog. Then what? Elisabeth |

It doesn't necessarily mean that when you use Blogger, your blog will be indexed faster than a self hosted wordpress. It's just a matter of how well your blog is crawable and open to spiders to crawl. I personally a big fan of Wordpress.. I got a few blogs on Blogger though...

I agree that both different types serve their purpose in different roles reasonable well. But if the question is "of all time which is your favorite platfrom," I would definately have to go for WordPress. The main reason being the plugins and the ease of the CMS.

Use both. Set up wordpress under your own domain and hosting, and use that as your main site. Then set up a 'mini' version oof your blog using blogger and use that to produce intro or brief articles that link back to your main blog. |

Blogger is a Google product. There's always going to be a slight bias. Not surprisingly, Blogger gets indexed fast if you keep your content consistent. And so does Wordpress. Combine both |

| You must use a static website because the top ten websites in the world are static sites! In other words, don't listen to anybody who says you absolutely have to use Wordpress or Blogger (or Joomla or Drupal or . . .). You have to know two things 1. What is your business model? 2. Which platform (or platforms) is best suited to it? Until we have the answer to question 1 we can't give you a meaningful reply. Martin |

For me, I would rather set up a long-term Blog on Wordpress. It is much more flexible and there are tons of plugins and designs out there. However, if I was setting up a niche Blog then I would go with Blogger. It is giving much more weight in Google when you first start out because it is owned by Google.

Each has value. I think Blogger is easier to work with and I like being on Google 40 minutes after I post. But WordPress has many more options, more like a real website.

Wordpress is free, gives you control of your permalink structure (your URLs), is the most flexible platform I've ever come across and works extremely well (and fast) with search engines like google. I converted to Wordpress from Joomla, and looked at other publishing platforms. Nothing comes close. In terms of business model: if you're building a forum, use forum software; if you're building a flash site, use flash (and so on). In terms of ranking: Use software. If you have a business website, you either want traffic via: - exposure (ranking in the SERPs) - direct referals (e.g. offline marketing such as magazines - let's say a competition page that you send your readers to etc) Most business websites want visitors from the SERPs (exposure) in order to sell a product or service. Regardless of your business model, if you want exposure and rankings use the right platform: Wordpress. (then put in the work |
