Hi everyone

what are the first things you need to do to promote a new site?

I am just putting together a new site and would like to know what you all think about the first steps for promotion?

My other site was all done for me, but I would like to do it myself this time - so where should I start?

What do you think of site and directory submission, ppc, article marketing etc etc etc.......
Im hoping you may give me a 1-5 or 1-10 type list of the most important things to do!

Hi Kym, what is your new site about? It would be easier for us to suggest to you what can be done. =)

Personally I would go for JV and optimise the conversion before going full force into marketing the product.

You would need to know the current conversion of your site. Then improve it. Then you are ready to market it.

Issue a press release.
Join traffic exchange programs.
Offer freebies.
Promote contests/sweepstakes.
Use Tell-A-Friend.
Make a YouTube video.
Join/start groups.
Conduct webinars
And podcasts.
Post to relevant forums/blogs.
Find a JV partner to do whatever.
Ping it.

If you know how to do PPC (or want to learn) this will give you your fastest response which will allow you to find and fix any weak links in your sales process. You should quickly get lots of traffic (depending on your niche) so you'll be able to find the most profitable keywords to target and tweek your landing page for the best conversion.

-> Start building a list if it's feasible for your niche and build a relationship with you visitors (email marketing).

-> Next, I would start article marketing using the keywords you found to be successful from your PPC campaigns.

-> Then do some forum marketing at forums within your niche.

-> Start building a few feeder sites to your main site.

-> After you have built up you list a little and obtained some reasonable sales numbers then you can start to look for JV partners.

This should get you started and keep you busy for a while.

If you are a newbie and don't know how to do these things then look for a good book on article marketing and start there. The reason I say get a good book is because most people do article marketing wrong and quickly give up on it.

Marketing on the internet is just that marketing. You need to make sure you're marketing using a variety of tools:

1. Unique selling proposition
2. Lead generation/list building
3. Conversion process
4. Joint venture/affiliates
5. Article marketing
6. Web 2.0 (podcasting, web videos, blogging, social networking)
7. SEM (PPC, SEO)

Remember everything you do, in terms of marketing, is to get people on your list.

To get maximum leverage convert your articles to podcasts and videos also repurpose your articles for your blogs and social networks (i.e. forums, Hubs, Wikis, Lenses, etc.)

Wow! Thanks guys - Ive got a lot to do then!

I know the value of article marketing and how to do it to get on page 1-2 in only hours - so Im good there.

I am just organizing the freebies for the list/squeeze page but having trouble - thought I could do it but will probably have to outsource (damn it!)
I have never done video or podcasting - so I'll have to check into that too!
I do the TE thing and email marketing - I will send my make money list a notification about my new site and who knows? should get some interest.

Ok - I'll get on with those jobs up there - thankyou so much for your help, I'll let you all know about my site very soon - I just want to get it all sorted before I go bull at a gate this time!

I really apreciate having my WF family to run everything past and I really respect the valuable information and the time spent in giving it to me!
