Default Phony Confirmation messages

Has anyone else noticed a sudden uptick in phony opt-in confirmation messages? You know the one--Subject line reads something like "Confirm your subscription" and the body runs something along the lines "You or someone using your email address blahblah@blah.com has requested to join our mailing list "yes, I'm a sucker".

I've been getting these a lot more regularly lately. Just wondering if some recently released best thing since sliced bread is touting this as a good tactic.....
