Hi all.... I am totally confused. I submitted my sitemaps on all of my sites over the last few weeks. Now, I am seeing some of my sites show a 404 error when Google crawls the sitemap. All of my WP sites use the Google Sitemaps plugin. Most of them are fine. Any idea what would cause this error on some sites??

Along those lines, on the sites with the problems, you can click settings and then choose "XML Sitemap" (with the plugin I am using in WP) and then check the stats there. It should tell you whether Google was successfully notified, etc. If not, then there should be clues as to what needs to be done there. Have you checked the box that says "Rebuild sitemap if you change the content of your blog"...? Also, do your sites use WP Super Cache? If so, have you tried clearing the cache completely and then rechecking all of the above? Those are just a few quick thoughts. Also, if you may want to make sure that the sitemap file name that your plug in is generating is in fact the same sitemap file name that google webmaster tools is looking for... | |
