Using "WordPress" in your domain name

A while back without really thinking about it I purchased a domain name that included the full word "WordPress" within it. I've been sweating about it ever since, especially after reading a number of recent posts regarding trademark and copyright infringement.

I found this in the WordPress site, and I think I've solved my dilemma:

WordPress › About Domains

The key point was this:

Try using "wp" instead, or another variation. We're not lawyers, but very good ones tell us we have to do this to preserve our trademark...

If you already have a domain with "WordPress" in it, redirecting it to the "wp" equivalent is fine, just as long as the main one users see and you promote doesn't contain "WordPress."
I was fortunate in that my "WordPress" domain name was also available as a "wp" domain, which I have now purchased. I'm assuming that all is well now, and that I can place the site on the "wp" domain and redirect traffic from the other one.

Just thought I'd throw this out there if anyone else was facing the same dilemma.

    Solid advice.

Companies have an obligation to protect their trademark...or face losing it.

At least in the US. As far as I understand.

And in the U.K. too, Steve. After all, that's where the U.S. got its concepts of
      trademark from.

The U.S. just happens to have more aggressive parties on that.

Not really. Subdomains are just like folders. You can't be sued for naming a folder.

I've got a few domains with "wp" in them, refering to Wordpress. Didn't know they actually recommended that, but assumed it would be the case.

The closest that's happened is Jews for Jesus vs. Google. But they settled.

Goes to show anyone can sue...if they're that determined.
