Which is better and easier to use HostGator or Homestead.com?

I know nothing about Web design and HTML and hosting. Which one would be easier for someone like me? :confused:

    I prefer Hostgator. Haven't used Homestead though.

    Homestead has you download their program on your computer that allows you to design your website. I had one client that was using it for a professional site that ended out appearing very amateurish. She hired me to come in and "fix it". It was impossible. We moved her site.

    If you are going to do more than just have a personal hobby site, I highly recommend Hostgator over Homestead. Hostgator has an easy to use Cpanel, website templates and great support. They provide a series of quality training videos that will walk you through the pieces you don't understand. If you want a Wordpress blog, Hostgator's Cpanel has Fantastico which allows a quick and easy install. If you need some more help don't hesitate to ask.

        Hi dns,

        I have been using HostMonster for just over 2 years now and am really satisfied with them.

        I recently signed up for an account on hostgator and I personally believe its a total mess. I cant even access my account via their homepage. I paid for 1 month there for a client of mine and havent bothered to go to that account ever since.

        Hostmonster has a good deal of features, HTML editors, daily backups and the support is pretty good. So I say thumbs up!

      I have to agree with Terry Loving. I used Homestead and was not happy with the appearance of the website template choices they offered. I did not feel I could create a professional looking site that would keep visitors on my page. I prefer Hostgator and the templates they offered over Homestead.

      I also have used a monthly subscription to WP Direct as well and I am quite happy with it as well. Someone also said Homestead has since upgraded their site. If they have a trial period, maybe you can try it first before making a commitment and make a decision that way.

    I've been using Homestead for many years and like them very much. All my sites are built with them. I like them specifically because you don't have to know anything about html, cpanel and all that other stuff.

    It's basically, point and click.

    They've recently been bought out by a big corporation and have made many improvements. They have a wide selection of templates that you can choose from. I usually don't use them, though. I like to start with a blank page and add photos and content - keep it simple.

    Lots of small entrepreneurs use them.

    As for "amateurish" that's a matter of opinion. All I know is I get visitors to my sites and they make money. So, it's really all in how you put all the elements together. You don't need all that fancy techie stuff to make great looking websites.

    Plus, I've built many sites and still pay the same monthly fee I've always paid (tons of bandwidth). It's so easy that I highly recommend them to anyone who wants an easy way to build an html web site.

      Hi Guys,
      Thanks for all the great feedback. One other question I have is
      Wordpress hard to learn opposed to say Homestead which is point and click? Also if you use Wordpress to create a site do you have to pay for hosting? Excuse the stupid questions I'm new at this.

    Get a web host that offers Fantastico or Installatron, you'll be able to install wordpress in a click via the web hosts panel.

    Personally, I would stay away from hostgator, or any of the 'unlimited' hosting guys.

      Seems like what you are saying is "I have never used Hostgator". It is the most recommended shared hosting here by many of us.

      Yes, you pay for hosting for a WP blog to put it on your own domain. Very easy to create the blog using fantastico which Hostgator and most good hosting companies include in the cpanel.

        You go to any web hosting forums/community and you will hear the opposite.

        Everyone is entitled to their opinion, if you like HostGator, then you do . There have just been some horror stories about them closing accounts for over usage of their so called 'unlimited' hosting. So if you are going to host a small site with little bandwidth usage, you'll be fine.

        If you are going to host something larger, go with a host that offers actual limits, otherwise read through HostGators ToS/AuP, you'll find some hidden lines regarding their not so unlimited hosting.

    I have a few different hosting accounts and I personally like Host Gator the best. The WP install is very quick and easy. Plus they provide many addons such as free 1-800 numbers, adwords cash, etc. I have never had any issue with their support. They have always responded quickly through email, chat and phone.

      The "unlimited" hosting at HG is something new - I have reseller accounts there but in my experience no hosting is "unlimited".

      However, websites in general are not nearly as large as people think they are going to be. If you have an average website of 5-10 mb, you don't have to worry about it and that's where most people start. Customer service, clear instructions and fantastico are more important when you are new.

      The bonus of HG to me as it relates to new marketers is the excellent tutorials they offer to help learn how to use the hosting.

      If you say "I have used HG and don't like it" - that's your opinion based on experience and I respect that. You don't say that and hearsay or judgment without using a product isn't a good basis for advice. That was my point. If you "personally" don't like HG because of the "unlimited hosting" but have never tried the hosting, you don't know if it's good or not.

      The problem with working hard to "choose hosting" when you are very new is that you have no idea what to look for or what you need and you are comparing offers with no basis for comparison. I advise new marketers to go with a host such as HG that many are happy with - because you can change hosts later when you know what you want and why.

    HostGator is the way to go. They provide prompt and great customer services. I have not had any problem using their services so far.

    Also they are the ones recommended by many experienced internet marketers too.
