Hi all, I am wanting to know what editing programme people use and what has been effective for them. At present I am using NVU a free software. The only problem is that it can be a bit unreliable when uploading pages to the web. I tried Komposer but it just does not seem to download properly. I am thinking of purchasing dreamweaver. I just wanted to start making some sales from my sites before going down this road. The main reason for asking is that my site is viewed fine if using Firefox but if using IE7 its all over the place. Cheers Craig |

Hi Craig I have used Dreamweaver in the past for my websites and found it to be great BUT there is a huge learning curve plus it is quite expensive. Now I'm using XsitePro which is much cheaper, much easier and also more or less does everything for you especially if you want opt in pages, video, audios, Google adsense, paypal etc. It also optimizes your pages as well plus you can add your own coding if you wish. You have a choice of templates or you can make your own site from scratch. It uploads your files for you to your server so no need to worry about ftp software and also there is excellent customer support. Here's the link again XsitePro.com Any questions - just ask Best wishes Doug |

Hi, I have dreamweaver and XSitePro. If you just need to do normal website, Xsitepro is more than enough Dreamweaver is more for professional web designers and it can do more things than XSite pro |

Hi there, I use Kompozer for editing html (better version of NVU) and Filezilla to upload - all 100% free and works very well for me |

Dreamviewer is a professional tool, there is an high learning curve to master all the functionalities it offers. NVU is fair good even if is unstable (not only during ftp )Anyway, for simple minisite I prefer to create manually the html code. |

I'm going to share a little story with you. I began IM with trying to use an old copy of dreamweaver, taking some online courses, and was going to build a site. I had no interest in designing sites, I just needed one to promote an affiliate product. I wasted a TON of time on this. It was silly. I finally wound up getting a simple website tonight account and knocking a site up in just a couple of hours. I went on to make sales within just a few days of doing that. If you are not going to be a designer and this site is just for affiliate products or something to start making some quick money, toss out the thought of dreamweaver. I love what dreamweaver can do, but it is not necessary for marketing or making money. Unless you are going to be a pro designer, don't bog yourself down with it (now). A simple site will do just fine. There are some free templates on this forum you can start with and just pop some copy on. There are easy ways to install your own WP blog, toss in a theme and have a site up in record time. All of these will not give you the headaches you are dealing with. Many of them work out of the box and show up nicely on every browser. The work has already been done for you. My host has an html editor right on it where I can edit directly with wysiwyg. Learn to just get the job done marketing wise first and then go treat yourself to dreamweaver to play on in your spare time. There are easier and much faster solutions to the problem you seem to have - and they are just as free.

Jill's right on this. You can get a website designed for you super-cheap, because there are a lot of designers who need the work. I'm not saying it's not a cool skill to have, designing with DreamWeaver - and if you want to be a web designer as a career it's a good software to know. These days a lot of sites run on CMS systems like Drupal, so if you want to work in the web development field I'd recommend learning how the common CMS systems really work so you can solve hard, specialized problems for clients. I use XSitePro mostly, but I use the HTML editor in the Seamonkey suite sometimes for simple things. XsitePro is real easy to learn and makes good looking, good-working websites right out of the box. I tried, several years ago, to learn DreamWeaver - and I wasted a lot of time and my site still sucked. So - if web design is your dream job, get Dreamweaver - but if you just want to be a marketer you don't need it and it's time consuming to learn anyway. |

Is there a similar theme you can use instead? Have you tried emailing the original creator of the theme? I just did that myself with one of my sites, and the guy who made the theme actually created an additional page format for me free of charge. What is the site? Can you put it in your signature? Maybe someone here will offer some assistance so you can move past it.

Thanks for all the input. I think I have cracked it. I downloaded a version of Komposer and re did the whole homepage Gardening With Herbs Tips. It seems to work with firefox and IE7 so hopefully I can start driving traffic to it now. Thanks again Craig |
