Default What's the downside to working online?

Hi everyone, we hear a lot about the potential of the Internet and online business - what do feel are the 'downsides' to working online/on the net???

1. Being asked to help people move during the week when everyone else is "working"

2. Weight Gain (I speak from experience)

3. People asking you when you are going to get a real job

Those should get it started

It's really hard to remember what day of the week it is when you don't have to work M-F.

You don't have a boss. That's not a downside for me, but it is for a lot of people. They THINK they don't want to work for someone else, only to realize they need someone to tell them what to do. Sad, but true.

All the best,
Michael

- most deffie procrastination.
- lack of face-to-face interaction with real humans (and not bots)
- not being able to show sympathy for your frends who have to wake up before sunrise to catch the bus/train to work
- boredom (c'mon, you cant be working the whole day, but when you choosenot to work, your friends are at work so yu have no one to chill with but yourself)
- you may never know how it feels to have a boss
- if you live in a house which is stuffy, you have to work in that hot environment instead of the air conditioned environment in an office.
- youre always at home. (sometimes i wish i could go out, but i have no one to go out with because my friends are either at school or work)
- unless you choose to rent an office, you become a prisoner to your own home. if you have an office, you become a prisoner in that office.
- staring at the screen the whole day doesnt really develop your inter-personal skills. you may end up becoming an introvert in real life when you do get a chance to chill with your friends.
- you may never understand the meaning of "i'm broke" or "i'm in debt"
- be sure you take a break from work or your eyesight will deteriorate

Tim has 3 good points!!! People assume you are free to do anything all the time

- Not separating your personal and work life because you enjoy online work

- You have to make your schedule and follow it (it is easy to listen to someone else and complain)

- You must be discipline or you will waste a lot of time

- The Failure rate is a lot higher and you have to work 10 times hard to get good results at first

Yep .. I do what I want and when I want to do it .. Where is the downside to that... No boss, no taking orders, no making someone else rich, no driving to work, and the list goes on and on...

I see no downside...

The downside for me is that most of my old buddies are tied to jobs and cant just decide to go to vegas on a whim -- or fly out to monterey to play some golf -- or whatever.... Most of them have to plan out there fun far in advance. The reason that is a bummer for me is that I have known these guys for 20 years and love hanging and doing trips, but they cant most of the time. It helps you understand why guys like MC Hammer(back in the day) just put their "posse" on the payroll.... So they will have someone to play with!

I have people tell me they are jealous a lot... when I also tell them that pretty much anyone can make it work with hard work.

Also people assume that I don't work as hard as I do. I'm very hard working, I just like what I do so it doesn't really feel like work. At least not in the same way that my previous jobs have felt.

I have to agree with the weight gain. I have seen the weight go one very quickly.

The other downside I see is looking at the computer all day. I get sick of looking at the screen.

If there is a downside its maybe the fact that you cannot be certain about future sales, and you are dependent on external factors like hosters, google, etc..etc..

But in a conventional job...nothing is certain there either.

Aside from that..i cant really see any downside. I was just out there again and see all those cars with people going to work at 6:00am..probably some crappy job working for SOMEONE ELSE. Shiver...

The upsides definitely outweight the downsides...

....but my biggest downside would have to be the lack of getting outside. I have friends I go hang out with at least once a week and stuff like that, but other than that I'm home a lot.

If it wasn't for going to the gym to lift everyday I wouldn't socialize with people near as much... except for the weekends.

But I guess people in normal jobs only get out on weekends too, so it's mostly just that you feel like your alone all week since you work at home.

Here is the downside....

I came back from my vacation to India over a week ago and I am still jet lagged, I got no structure to work day or night since I work IM. I woke up at 2 AM this morning and been up since, my hours are soo not set.
