Default Is Picking Perfect Niches Easy?

Websites I have been told to use to spark ideas for picking a niche are sites like ebay pulse, springwise, amazon magazines, ehow, and 43things.

I have not been able to use any of these sites to pick a good niche.

I want to know what the real professional IMers are doing to spark their ideas, and how they create a mindset where they are always trying to spark ideas.

If you are successful in Internet Marketing and you have this figured out, please give us your input.

If you are having trouble with market research, what is your biggest sticking point?

Hi,

I am astonished that you haven't in the very least been inspired with your niche hunting by visiting amazon, ebay and ehow.

Try this amazon link for the bestselling amazon books: Amazon.com Bestsellers: The most popular items in Books. Updated hourly..

Try this site too for inspiration : Zeitgeist on 43 Things. This site is where people post things they'd like to learn, do, become, places they'd like to go etc. Other members can 'cheer' for things they like so you can see if a goal is popular. You can also use the tag cloud on the right hand side to see which topics are popular as the word grows in size as more people use it.

Another site that allows you to pick up on more desperate niches is Embarrassing Problems because if people have what they consider an embarrassing problem then they will pay good money to get rid of it!

Spend 15 minutes checking out these sites and I'm confident you'll find several potential niches to make money from.

Just go and do it my friend!

Garry.

Flippa.com is excellent for niche ideas, when the stats are verified. A bit of reverse engineering can go a long way.

If in doubt, follow the Russian guy selling pills...

My biggest sticking point in market research is breaking down a market into a subniche that is not already saturated. What tends to get in my way is not brainstorming enough or "thinking out of the box." I find that if I will take the time to clear my head and just start writing down my thoughts uninhibited I can come up with some ideas of subniches to market too as well as less competitive long tail keywords to use.

I know it's not really what you were asking, but there is no such thing as a perfect niche. It doesn't exist.

However, there will be niches that are better suited to you and your goals.

--------

You don't have to limit yourself to Amazon magazines. Check the best sellers in every non-fiction category to get even more ideas.

Google Insights is another tool you may find useful.

Also, when using the Google Keyword Tool try entering things like, "how can i", "where can i", "how do you", and "where to buy".

All the best,
Michael

I'm a bit different in that I begin by listing things/areas I'm PASSIONATE about.

Then, I refine that list to find the ones with the highest profit potential.

It's in the 2nd step that resources like Amazon.com, Magazines.com and Google
Trends help in niche research.

Of course, the other approach of exclusively "following the money" works well.
It's just a bit less fun. Also, being passionate about it gives you staying power
UNTIL you turn the success corner!

All success

It's not the magazines, it's the books.

43 Things is not the place to find a niche, but a good place to get a look at people's wants. Good for a start, but not good for making any niche choices. After all, nobody's buying there.

Not heard of these ones before. One question though, how do you know if a particular niche will be profitable or not?

This is true Kevin but the poster in their original comment is looking for ideas and 'sparks of inspiration' for niches, so 43 Things is a good place as any to start and in my opinion should not be so lightly disregarded.

There are several good ways to find a good niche, including...

Stopping off at your local WalMart and browsing the magazine and book racks. If there is a magazine or book for the niche, chances are pretty good that it can be made profitable.

Here's a fantastic place to start: Magazines.com

Here's a thread from yesterday with insights from the perspective of some affilliates.

What's the best way to choose a clickbank product or niche for AM?

If you are thinking of selling your own InfoProduct in a niche firstly you need to assess the following to discover if it's a profitable niche:

· How well current products sell
· How much products sell for
· How easy would it be to come out with these products?
· How many products you can make in that market
· How much backend potential is there?

Hope this helps.

Garry.

The real key isn't finding the perfect niche, but in having belief in the model you're following that's strong enough to push you to enough action that you'll see results.

It sounds like you are making this Internet Marketing thing too complicated.

Keep it simple.

Are you going to be an affiliate for something, sell info products, sell physical products or what?

There are many thousands of niches.

Don't fall into the trap of trying to find the "Perfect Niche", which usually results in no action taking place, as it doesn't exist.

Along the lines of the magazine ideas there is the local library.

Pick up the popular magazines and look at the subscription numbers inside the front few pages with the publishing information.

Look through the ads especially the little ads in the back and using past issues of the same magazine see how many ads have been running for years.

This is a product that the niche that reads that magazine buys. You also see what "little headlines" they respond to.

In my opinion, the wildly popular niches are NOT the way for the beginner to start their career in IM. There's simply too much competition for someone who doesn't have a boatload of experience under their belt to even have a chance.

Find a niche you're interested in, do your keyword research, and focus on a few keywords with decent search values, and low competition. In this way, you'll have the benefit of actually making some money while gaining the experience you need to tackle the more competitive niches.

I never understood why people have so much trouble
picking a niche. I'm pretty sure it's because of the bad advice
that low competition niches are best.

I follow this model.

1. It's something you are passionate about and you know others are passionate
about it as well. (IE Music production, sports, etc...)

2. It's a niche that does a lot of volume in sales. (Weight loss, Internet Marketing,
Dating, etc...)

If you just want to make lots of money and don't care
about following a particular passion I'd go with 2.

Do you really believe there is "The Perfect Niche"? Just what is a "Niche" - a distinct segment of a market, pertaining to or intended for a market niche; having specific appeal: niche advertising and to find one's niche in the business world. All the sites that have been previously listed in this thread are great but, your missing some of the most important resources available 24/7. CNN, ABC NEWS, CBS NEWS, FOX, and more....What part of the daily news doesn't speak of appeal or anything in the business world. Remember, "Think Outside The Box".

Don't be scared of competition. There is a REASON why some markets are more competitive than others. Because they CONVERT.
Good talk. I agree with you with the whole of my body.Humm, are there profitable niches without competitions? I think competition is everywhere, we just have to work on our strategies.

Niches are everything - but first I would suggest you quantify what you will be doing in the niche.

Sounds backwards but it matters. By what method do you intend to make money? Unless you are open to any method.. which maybe isnīt a good thing because having focus and a plan is equally important and easier to do if you concentrate on 1 thing at a time. Every effort you make - make it into a project of its own.

So, what method of making money attracts you? Adsense, affiliate / clickbank producs, your own products, memberships, plr articles, etc?

Why it matters is because the amount and quality of traffic you need for each method may be very different. How much seo and linking you need is also dependant on the method you will use - if you are doing product launches for example you need neither since you are better off with a JV plan

Once you know your method it will be easier to start checking out the market, what the gaps are, where is the money.

As for ideas, amazon is good, google keyword tool is great when you drill down several levels. mag headlines while you are in the grocery line, forums

Once you find topics that you think might be good niches - find out if there is money in them - never go after a niche where there is no money as life is short, and so is patience

I agree with that there really are no "perfect" niches but there are, without a doubt some very profitable niches waiting to be tapped.

Thank you everyone for responding to this thread. I have learned a lot about finding a niche.

I agree that the niches where there is lots of competition means that those niches convert.

My goal is to start off selling affiliate products, and maybe in the future create a product of my own, (or outsource it.)

I just want to gain some experience with making my first $1 dollar on the internet.

I have joined sites like the thirty day challenge, with Ed Dale, and I can say I learned a lot from him.

What has been stopping me from proceed, or even beginning a niche is the fact that he has said that 30,000 or less in competition is good.

I am trying to rank my keyword on the top 1.

Sometimes I flee from certain niches because I see the authority other sites have for keywords.

And I end up with starting from scratch, and that is when I can't spark more ideas.

eBay recently launched The Inside Source - it doesn't have raw data, but it does have analysis of trends based on their dataset.
