We decided to launch our membership site (see my signature) using ClickBank to handle sales. We figured that if we could sell a few memberships then our gravity would be high, thus encouraging other affiliates to promote it. We used a list of 101 people who said they were interested, launched the offer, sold over 30 in the first 3 days. So, you'd expect the gravity to be up around the 10-20 mark as CB adds between 0.1 and 1 per sale. But, CB does not count direct sales towards its gravity, only affiliate sales, and it gives less weight to multiple sales made by the same affiliate. If I'd known this then I probably wouldn't have given up the almost 10% that CB charges as the big attraction for us was to attract affiliates this way. Now, we have other strategies for making sales, and we're taking it fairly easy in the first few weeks so we're not bombarded with support requests. But, if you want to take advantage of CB gravity and you reckon you're going to make quite a few direct sales yourself, I'd set up 4-5 other CB accounts and direct traffic through them. In our case the membership site price is $97/month, so you could set CB's payout to $80 and you'd get paid each month even if you only make one sale. |
