Lets say that I want to slap up a websites called..... birdfeeders.com and for the exact search of bird feeders there is 2 million pages of competition but....the top then do not have the exact name in the url like above can you beat them out if the highest PR is 3 and I create the site called birdfeeders.com ? |

Yes you can beat them. First you need to decide which keyword you want to beat and focus on it. Then apply all the onsite and offsite SEO. For onsite, ensure your content is keyword rich, your keywords is in the title and <h1> tag etc. For offsite, you can build some good backlink. Submit to article directories, create lens in Squidoo (google loves squidoo), do social bookmarking etc But having said that, if the site on page 1 of your keyword is full of authoritative sites (e.g. wikipedia), then probably you should consider targeting other keywords. |

There aren't 2 million pages of actual competition, that's a myth. Google returns only 1,000 results, and the only "competition" you should really focus your efforts on are the first ten.
