Social Networking Sites - building one yourself

Hi there,

I'm doing a lot of research on social networking sites and specifically the means that affiliate marketeers could use them.

I was wondering whether there was anybody here that has already successfully created a social networking site (user enabled reviews, etc) for affiliate marketing purposes.

The biggest objection I usually hear is that marketers fear that they are not targeting visitors that are going to spend money. What do you think?

    I built a community site for a client of mine that had a really good domain name.

    The purpose of the community is so she has a group of people to sell her main product
    to. I did however introduce her to google ads, and affiliate marketing. So far we only
    have 54 members, but it looks promising.

    She makes a little more money on the side and an audience that she knows is qualified
    for her main service. It's more of a long term commitment I think.
